The Immigrants
When I began my Mitchell genealogy research, I assumed that Thomas Mitchell was the unique individual who bravely immigrated to the unknown land of America. I discovered that he was not the only one of our ancestors to make the journey, and was not the first or the last. You would assume that there was correspondence between these people and more of a reason to follow to the new country, but we don't know this for sure. There may be others; their discovery would involve considerable additional research. Here is a list of those who emigrated:
| Thomas Mitchell & Family | 1888, 1889 | Paterson, NJ |
| James and Janet French Ferrans | 1882 | Carbon County, Utah |
| Adam French (grandson of Adam French) | 1881 | b. 1858, lived in LA 1930 |
| William and Janet Baird Houston | 1894 | Paterson, NJ |
| David and Jeannie Baird Holland | 1894 | Paterson, NJ |
| Hugh and Mary Baird Finnie | 1882 | Bergen, Paterson, NJ |
