Deaths
In East Trenton, on the 10th inst., Capt. Steven
HIGGINS, departed this life aged 58 years; his last
sickness, which was a lingering consumption, was very
long and severe, but he bore it with great patience
and resignation. He had long resided in Trenton, being
one of the first settlers of that town where, by
honest industry and strict integrity of character, he
had won many warm friends. The loss to that community
occasioned by his death cannot well be made good. He
was a worthy and respected citizen, a kind and
obliging neighbor, a loving and indulgent father, and
a devoted and affectionate husband. His loss we
deplore, and his memory will long be cherished by
those who knew him. (followed by poem)

in Hancock. A faithful wife, loving mother.
We tender our sympathies to the aged parents
who mourn the loss of an affectionate daughter,
and to the orphaned family.
On the occasion of her funeral the sermon
was by her pastor, Rev. I. Steadman,
text Revelations 12:13:

I heard a voice saying unto me,
'Write - Blessed are

Yea, saith the Spirit that they may rest
from their labors
and their works do follow them."

Obituary: CHARLES HIGGINS, son of Eben Higgins of
Eden, passed away at the house of his aunt, Mrs. Hiram
Emery, Oct. 13, at the age of 20 years, 1 month. While
at the commercial school at Rockland last winter, he
took a severe cold which compelled him to discontinue
his studies and come home. Since that time he had been
gradually failing in health until a severe hemorrhage
resulted in death. He had been voted into the Sons of
Veterans. He was an active member of Bay View Grange
which has sustained no previous loss by death since
its organization. At the burial services more than 60
members of the Grange and 10 Sons of Veterans marched
in the procession. His father is left alone, his wife
having departed this life within the year and now his
only son. Dated Eden, Oct. 20, 1888.
