CHARLES C. 'SHINE' HIGGINS
CHARLESTON - Charles C. "Shine" Higgins, 85, died peacefully Nov. 27, 2006, surrounded by his family at
his home. He was born April 13, 1921, in Charleston, the son of Stanley and Marjorie (Chandler) Higgins.
Shine was a graduate of Higgins Classical Institute, Class of 1940, where he lettered in baseball,
basketball and football. He was well known as a basketball player, playing on several town teams for
many years. He was also well known as a teamster in the region and always had a well broken team of horses
until 1993 when his health prevented him from caring for them. He married Margaret Duran of Bradford in
1940, beginning a long loving relationship. He owned Maple Lane Farms, a dairy farm in Charleston, until
his retirement in 1999. His son, Barry, and grandson, BJ, continue to operate the farm, making it a four
generation family farm. He loved to fish, especially up to Carroll's camp, and go to sporting events, but
always had time to share a story. We will always cherish our many happy memories of Shine, not the
least of which was his lawn mower exploits, both on the farm and in the village in his retirement years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Margaret; his sons, Carroll and wife, Sherry, of
Lincoln and Barry and wife, Mary, of Charleston; his loving grandchildren, Amy and Mike Bishop, BJ and
Randa Higgins, Tracy and Steve Segenchuk, Scott and Linda Higgins; and eight great-grandchildren; his twin
brother, Henry "Bud" Higgins and wife, Shirley, of Charleston; sisters-in-law, Betty Howard and Madeline
Tasker. Shine was predeceased by his brother, Norman; and his sister, Muriel Higgins. Friends may call 6-9
p.m. Wednesday at Thompson Funeral Home, 17 Hudson Road, Corinth, where funeral services will be held 1
p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Ronald E. Libby officiating. Burial will be at Charleston Village
Cemetery. Those who wish may make donations to the Soul's Harbor Ministry, P.O. Box 275, Corinth, ME
04427.
