"In 1887, David Emmert, Instructor in art at Juniata college, was intrumental in building a home for orphan children on the campus and inspiring the formation of an auxiliary of college students and townspeople who supported the home in a variety of ways. In 1899 when Mrs. Susan ressler, matron for seventeen years, resigned, The "Globe" reported twenty-two children in residence and more than one hundred for whom good homes had been found during the little institution's existence."
