Third Generation

38. Carol Sue MOGEN was born on May 22, 1930 in Webster, SD. She died on May 2, 2001 in Spokane, WA. After high school graduation, Carol attended SDSU in Brookings, SD majoring in Home Economics. She met her future husband, Merle, her freshman year and they were married in 1950.

Carol was active in church work and was a deacon at the Whitworth Church, where she and Merle were both members of the church choir. She and Merle worked with the youth program at the church when their children were teenagers. She was active in dressmaking for many years. She was a volunteer at the VA Hospital in Spokane and a local Health Care Center, as well as her garden club, bridge clubs, and other social endeavors.

Carol's favorite time of the year was summer time when she could be at their lake home at Priest Lake, Idaho. She spent her hours in the sun there reading, sewing for her grandchildren and visiting with friends. In honor of her love of the lake, her family scattered her ashes at the lake.

Carol Sue MOGEN and Merle Eldon SWITZER were married on Nov 19, 1950 in the Congregational Church, Waubay, Day county SD. Merle Eldon SWITZER (son of Arthur Edgar SWITZER and Minnie Elsie FISCHER) was born on Jul 3, 1926 in Ramona, SD. After military service in WWII, Merle graduated from SDSU in Brookings where he met Carol. After their marriage, he was employed as an agronomist at SDSU for six years. He then accepted a position with TVA as a field representative. This job took them to Washington state where Merle supervised the testing and educational programs at land grant colleges in nine western states.

In 1965, Merle accepted a job with Cominco-American, Inc an international chemical company. He was the manager of the retail division. Merle was very active in professional organizations, as well as being on the National Ski Patrol at Mt Spokane for over 25 years. After his retirement, they continued to reside in Spokane and at their lake home at Priest Lake, ID.

Merle was married to Shirlene Atkins in June of 2005.
Carol Sue MOGEN and Merle Eldon SWITZER had the following children:
