Obituary of Lucy Usher Houser Beecher

Family stories say that Tinlis brought maple trees (or seeds?) to plant when he moved to DeWitt Co., IA.
Tinlis and Lucy were divorced about 1894.

George Beecher's obituary gives birth year of 1852, and place: Yorkville, Illinois.
1850 census indicates 1849 birth. Marriage record gives birthplace as Kendall County, Illinois
- 1895, George and Lucy were in Toledo, Tama County, Iowa. He was a blacksmith and machinist.
- 1900, they lived in Cimmaron Twp., Logan County, Oklahoma, where he was a blacksmith.

After George's death, Lucy lived with her next older sister Cornelia Priscilla Blanchard in McHenry County, Illinois. Lucy died there in 1917.

Obituary of George Beecher

Tinlis Hauser enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1862. From his pension application file from the National Archives, census records and other available data, we can construct this chronology of his life.

• - Born 1 March 1839, Richmond, Jefferson County, Ohio
  
• - 1841, his mother Sarah Bowers Hauser died. By 1844 his father had married Susan Barr
  
• - 1850, lived with his father and family in Salem Twp., Jefferson Co., Ohio
  
• - Enrolled 19 August, 1862, as a shoemaker, in the US Army, age 23. Served in Co. G 52d Infantry, Ohio.
  
• - Taken to hospital at Louisville, Kentucky, on 1 October 1862. A medical assistant reports he heard the doctor say that he (Tinlis) "could not possibly live because of tyfoid (sic) and heart disease."
  
• - Hospitalized in Cincinnati and at Camp Denison until his discharge on 23 March 1863, due to "valvular disease of the heart."
  
• - Remained in Cincinnati about a month.
  
• - Moved in mid-1863 to Iowa
  
• - Married 15 March 1866 to Lucy Usher, Clinton Co., Iowa.
  
• - 1870, butcher in DeWitt, Clinton Co., Iowa, with Lucy, Mary and Rolla, and brother Isaiah, also a butcher
  
• - 1880, living with family in Blairstown, Benton Co., Iowa, working as a butcher.

• - 1910, "Tinless", shoemaker, living in Cement, Caddo County, OK
  
• - 1912, January 12, The Cement Courier reported "TINS HAUSER has bought a small iron covered building and moved it onto his lot."
  
• - 1912, February 1, Tinlis died in Cement, Oklahoma.
  
• - 1912, February 9, The Cement Courier reported "City Marshal Henry Johnson has been appointed administrator of the TIM HAUSER estate."

  Tinlis was described as 5 feet 9 inches tall, light complexion, blue eyes, with dark or light hair. In 1891 he was said to suffer much from rheumatism, neuralgia, and heart disease, that he seems to be limping all the time.

  During the last month of his life, he bought an iron-covered shed which he moved onto his lot, and purchased some lumber. But at the end of January he became ill and died on February 1, 1912.

  2. Rawley (Rollie/Raleigh) D. Houser. On 1880 census: Rolla
  - born 9 December 1869.
  I have no further information about Rollie, although I think I remember hearing Aunt Hazel saying that he had visited them once, so apparently he survived childhood. However, he is not mentioned in his mother's obituary in 1917, nor have I been able to find him in the 1900 or 1910 census records.

  Perhaps he was the R. D. Houser who died in Provo, Utah, on 6 January 1906. This man, 37 years old, was a freight train conductor, was married, and died at the state mental hospital where he had been for 1 year, 11 months and 4 days.

  Fern and Walter had two children, as well as a pair of twins who were either stillborn or died within hours. The baby twins are buried in Walsenburg, Colorado.
