GoodShepherd

THE GOOD SHEPHERD

     John 10:11-16,27-30
STATEMENT: This chapter of John is a beautiful
picture of the great loving care of the Good
Shepherd (Jesus) showing his love and concern
for his sheep and all that are to be his sheep.
GOD MUST LOVE SHEPHERDS very much, He has much
to say about them in the Bible.
     1. DAVID Shepherd boy-exalted became King
     2. LOWEST position to the HIGHEST
     3. ANGELS appeared to the Shepherds at the birth
of Jesus. "BEHOLD I BRING YOU GOOD TIDINGS
OF GREAT JOY, WHICH SHALL BE TO ALL PEOPLE,
FOR UNTO YOU IS BORN THIS DAY, IN THE CITY OF
DAVID, A SAVIOUR, WHICH IS CHRIST THE LORD."
     4. OLD TESTAMENT TIMES, God referred to the
religious teachers or leaders of that day
         as shepherds of the flock.
     5. HERE IN OUR TEXT we see the great love of
        God for His sheep.
     7. SEE IN THIS PARABLE the loving concern
of the lowly shepherd for his sheep
Billie and I saw this love first hand
     Judean Hills-shepherd and his sheep
     8. 23rd PSALM EXPRESSES THIS LOVE
     THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD:
     1. Can you truly say, the Lord is my shepherd?
     2. Can you truly SAY, My Father which is in
        Heaven?
     3. Can you truly say, without any reservation
or doubt, that I have entered into the
sheepfold through the door of the sheep (Jesus)
      HE RESTORETH MY SOUL
     1. (ILLUS.) Sheep comes to shepherd once
each day. Just to hear shepherd call its
        name
HE ANNOINTEST MY HEAD WITH OIL
     1. Shepherd at sheepgate at end of day
HEAR WHAT THE GOOD SHEPHERD IS SAYING:
     1. "VS 27 MY SHEEP HEAR MY VOICE, AND I KNOW THEM,
         AND THEY FOLLOW ME:"
     2. ILLUS: Sheep at waterhole-three shepherds
        a. True shepherd speaks, true sheep hear
     3. The Good Shepherd is speaking
I am the door to the sheepfold
I am the way the truth and the Life
and no man come to the Father but by me.
        a. SPEAKING TO SHEEP that have no pasture
        b. SPEAKING TO LOST SHEEP, let me be your
           shepherd
        c. OPEN DOOR OF YOUR HEART-I will come in
        d. COME UNTO me all of you that are burdened
and heavy laden, and I will give you rest
     4. VS 28-29 ETERNAL SECURITY & ETERNAL LIFE
"AND I GIVE UNTO THEM ETERNAL LIFE:
        a. Oh what comfort what security
           1. Says we will never perish
        b. Nothing can separate us from Gods love
        c. Rom 5:8 "FOR I AM PERSUADED, THAT
NEITHER DEATH, NOR LIFE, NOR ANGELS, NOR
           PRINCIPALITIES, NOR POWERS, NOT THINGS
PRESENT, NOR THINGS TO COME, NOR HEIGHT,,
NOR DEPTH, NOR ANY OTHER CREATURE SHALL
BE ABLE TO SEPARATE US FROM THE LOVE OF
           GOD."
        d. LISTEN TO THE GOOD SHEPHERD: "29 MY FATHER,
WHICH GAVE THEM TO ME, IS GREATER THAN
ALL AND NO MAN IS ABLE TO PLUCK THEM OUT OF
           MY FATHERS HAND."
           1. PLACE SOUL in his hands today, be safe
              forever
           2. SAVED ONE DAY and lost the next
              a. saying someone has more power than
                 God
           3. BEFORE SOMEONE COULD PLUCK us from/hand
              a. They would have to :
                 1. Tear down all the battlements of
                    heaven
                 2. Slay all the host of Angels who
                    serve God day and night
                 3. Conquer Christ and silence him
                    forever
                 4. He would have to throw God off of
his throne and I tell you that is
                    an impossibility.
              b. THE WEAKEST SHEEP or Christian as safe
right now as he will be 10000 yrs from
                 now in heaven.
              c. All the demons of hell can storm our
LIFE, but were safe in the hands of
                 Jesus
     5. VS 11 WE SEE THE SHADOW OF THE CROSS
"I AM THE GOOD SHEPHERD: THE GOOD
SHEPHERD GIVETH HIS LIFE FOR THE SHEEP."
            1. Direct reference to the cross his
dying for all mankind the sheep.
            2. GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS,
THAT HE LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS
            3. Jesus is speaking to lost sheep.
            4. Look do you see the cross standing at
               the door of the sheepfold?
               a. no man comes to the Father but
                  by me.
            5. Do you see the one suspended on that
               cross?
               a. Not nails that hold him but love
            6. Yes, It is the good shepherd
            7. Oh why in the world is he there?
     6. BECAUSE OF SIN
        a. Isa 53:6 ALL WE LIKE SHEEP HAVE GONE
           ASTRAY.
        b. Rom 3:10 THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS NO
           NOT ONE.
        c. From the first man ADAM on.
        d. Rom 3:23 FOR ALL HAVE SINNED AND
COME SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD
        e. Behold the lamb of God that takes
away the sins of the world
        f. FOR ALL must come by the way of CROSS
        g. Doesn't matter what path of life we
           travel.
        h. God brings everyone that is searching
for light by the way of the cross.
        j. As we stand there before the cross we
           realize it is decision time
        k. What must I do with the one called Jesus?
        l. We hear the Holy Spirit echoing these
           words upon our hearts:
           1. Rom 5:8 "BUT GOD HAS SHOWN HIS LOVE
TOWARD US, IN THAT, WHILE WE WERE YET
              SINNERS, CHRIST DIED FOR US."
           2. And we hear the soft pleasing voice of
the HOLY SPIRIT SAY: John 3:16 "FOR
GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD THAT HE GAVE
HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, THAT WHOSOEVER
BELIEVETH IN HIM SHOULD NOT PERISH
              BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE."
           3. Then we hear the precious Holy Spirit
pierce our hearts with these words:
Rom 6:23 "FOR THE WAGES OF SIN IS
DEATH, BUT THE GIFT OF GOD IS ETERNAL
LIFE THROUGH JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD."
        m. DECISION TIME, What must I do to be saved?
        N. Here is is straight from God's word:
Rom 10:9-10,13 "THAT IF YOU SHALL CONFESS
WITH YOUR MOUTH THE LORD JESUS, AND BELIEVE
IN YOUR HEART THAT GOD HAS RIASED HIM FROM
THE DEAD, THOU SHALL BE SAVED. FOR
WITH THE HEART MAN BELIEVETH UNTO RIGHT-
EOUSNESS, AND WITH THE MOUTH CONFESSION
IS MADE UNTO SALVATION. FOR WHOSOEVER
SHALL CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD SHALL
           BE SAVED."
        N. ILLUS: Missionary and Tribal Chief/ Missionary describes
Jesus on the cross, Tribal chief says take him down, I should
           be in his place.
     7. END TIMES-SHEEP SEPARATED FROM THE GOATS
One day soon this good Shepherd is coming
for his sheep. Listen to these awesome words:
        a. Mt 25:32 "AND BEFORE HIM SHALL BE GATHERED
ALL PEOPLES: AND HE SHALL SEPARATE THEM ONE
FROM ANOTHER, AS A SHEPHERD DIVIDETH HIS
           SHEEP FROM THE GOATS:
        b. Put his sheep on his right hand and the goats
           on the left hand.
        c. For you see the shepherd separates the goats
from the sheep at night, because goats are
mean and troublesome to the sheep.
        d. You see the shepherd wants his sheep to sleep
           and get rest.
        e. With that good and great shepherd divides the
sheep from the goats, the sheep will get
           eternal rest and peace.
        f. But the goats get eternal separation from God
           and eternity in hell.
