The Tongue

Prov 6:16-19

ILLUS: Will Rogers once said:  The history of
america can be written in three phases: 1. The
passing of the Indian, 2. the passing of the
buffalo, and 3. the passing of the buck.

a.  Nobody wants to take the blame
    1. Pass the blame to somebody else
    2. President Truman.
b.  ILLUS: Young boy come home with black eye;
    the fight started when Bob hit me back.
c.  The tongue;  is a most destructive force.
d.  Yet, it can be the most powerful force the
    world has ever known.
    1. electrical power 2. atomic power
    3. satanic power
e.  But the tonque when used for good is more
    powerful than all.
f.  Proverbs 16:24 Pleasant words are as a
    honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to
    the bones.
g.  With the tonque a man cries out "have mercy
    on me a sinner" and the gates of hell
    tremble and shake, and the chains that bind
    him to an eternal hell, drop from his body
    like paper. He is eternally free.
h.  That little tonque unleased the power of
    God.
    1. Prov 15:4 A wholesome tonque is a tree
       of life.
i.  The tonque was created to praise God.
    1. The tonque created to sing praises to
       the Lord
j.  The tongue was created to say:
    1. The Lord is my shepherd.
    2. Our Father which is in heaven.
    3. I love you.
k.  This little tonque was created to uplife
    and encourgage one another
    1. Prov 12:25 Heaviness in the heart of man
       maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh
       it glad.
l.  This little tonque was created to always
    tell the truth.
    1. Bible says that God hates a liar.
    2. Reason for that is: only two things in
       this world: Truth and the lie.
       a. Garden of Eden
       b. The bible, every page
       c. World today
    3. With the tonque we speak the truth or
       the lie.
    4. Prov 21:23 Whoso keepeth his mouth and
       his tonque keepeth his soul from trouble
    5. Prov 15:1 A soft answer turneth away
       wrath: but grevious words stir up anger.
m.  Proverbs 25:11 A word fitly spoken is like
    apples of gold in pictures of silver.
