Wow! What does all of that mean and how does it apply to me?
Good question. God has said in His written word, the Bible, that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23
1. This simply means We are all sinners and there is no way to get to Heaven on our own. Being a good guy will not do it, being baptized will not accomplish it. Being a member of a Church, even though good, will not sway God's plan. What then is God's plan that we may escape the wrath of God which is to come?
a. The Bible says: The wages of sin is death (God's wrath to come) but the gift of God is eternal life (Heaven bound) through his SON Jesus Christ. Romans 6:23
b. The Bible says: "For God so loved the world (that means you and I) that He gave His only begotten SON that WHOSOEVER (YOU AND I) believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16
C. That is one of the greatest statements in all the Bible. Simply meaning that Jesus paid the price for our sins by suffering and dying on an old ruggged cross for our sins and gloriously arose on the third day as the Bible says. He purchased us back from the wrath to come. (Hell).
2. Does that mean since He's paid the price and bought me back that I am already eternally secure? No! It does not.
a. Listen to what the Bible has to say: "If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and BELIEVE in your heart that God raise HIM from the dead, you shall be saved. Romans 10:9
b. You have to believe that Jesus died on the cross for you and that God raised Him back to life on the third day.
c. Then, the Bible says: "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Romans 10:13
