A closer analysis of the Princes of Glamorgan has revealed
an astonishing story of the Morgans, leading to related names
for the children of Morgan-ap Caradoc, called also "Morgan-Arglwydd",
grandson of Iestyn ap Gwrgan.
The "de Avans" acquired Margam Abbey and inter-married
with Sir Wiliam Blount, exchanging their Welsh lands for English
lands near Cleobury Mortimer in Shropshire. This may be one of
the reasons why there are so many Morgans in Shropshire, although
the Union of England and Wales completed at Ludlow was obviously
a factor.
The Glamorgan lands were escheated to the Crown and Queen Mary
Tudor gave them to the Stradling Family.
Perhaps the lost interesting Family is that of Leyshon - from
Leisan, son of Morgan-Gam, another son of Morgan ap Caradoc.
Leyshons can therefore prove direct descent from the Morgan Princes
of Glamorgan, while Evans, Price, Pryce, Williams and Thomas,
among others, all seem to be Morgan Septs that can be linked.
Morgan can be used as a Christian name
or a surname
The name Morgan means foreigner
in Anglo Saxon and Cymri means fellowship.

Morgan Tartan's. All
Tartans, including Scottish ones, are commercial ventures and
have no official links with any Morgan Groups. The obvious question
is "Are you Scottish or Welsh?" as there are now two
unauthorised Morgan tartans, one based on an obscure link to Clan
Mackay in Scotland, a beautiful blue, and the other a mucky brown
being sold in South Wales.
Neither has been authorised by Clann
Morgainn or The Morgan Society.
