To reach this cemetery, from Orofino, drive south on Hwy 12, turn left or east, at Greer ID, onto Idaho State Hwy 11. Continue east until just past the Fraser Park which will be on your left, turn right onto Fraser Cemetery Road, and continue south to the cemetery.

This cemetery is maintained by the Fraser Cemetery District, under a board of directors for Clearwater County, Idaho. The cemetery is still being used for burials and is well maintained.

From previous writings about the area by a Mr Reed, it appears that this cemetery was established about 1887, with the first burial being that of the grandfather of Hose Ziglar. A burial is marked for the father of Jim Ziglar, and I am not sure if this is the same person.

The Fraser community was formed after the discovery of gold in the area. It has always remained a community, having a Post Office for only a few years. It is one of several communities along Hwy 11, on the bench overlooking the Clearwater River and other beautiful sights from Greer to Pierce.

There were several brass colored metal plates marking the burial site of some. My understanding is that the district has tried to mark every grave they are sure of, though many have no full name or dates. They are usually in the same plot with others by the same surname.

A huge amount of work goes into a transcription. Many of these stones are next to illegible and I could be incorrect in my reading of them. If you have proof of an error I will be very happy to check it out and see if I feel a correction or addition is in order. I only hope I was able to decipher the entries close enough to assist in further research by all. I counted what appeared to be about 50 unmarked gravesites. The sexton files list at least 35 unmarked graves. Thus some could be reserved burial sites, with no burial at this time.

I have transcribed from headstone readings, taken when I visited this cemetery on Jul 01, 2007 using my digital camera, thus I have a photo of each existing stone or marker, which includes only headstone information.

Cathy Walker later provided me with a copy of the sexton files. Entries followed by an asterisk * were names found in the sexton files, for which I found no marker, or the marker was illegible. If anyone has proof of a burial I am missing, or dates to add to those missing dates, I would be happy to know about them and possibly add to my work.
