Seaton Grove cemetery is located a short distance north of Elmer City
on South Front St along the Columbia River or 6 mi north of Grand Coulee
Dam. It lies off to your left as you head toward the water just after
the main office at Spirit Ridge Resort.
A very sad and lonely burial site. It has evidence of about 52+ unmarked
burials. I did not locate information about any more names than the
one lone headstone after the first time I visited. I was told the landowner
is working very hard to discover who is buried here. It is fenced in
and protected, but grown up in weeds except for the area around the
headstones.
There is one added stone that says "Disturbed from their eternal
rest from the banks of the Columbia River, we honor our ancestors by
returning them to mother earth this day, May 21, 2004." I can only
conclude it must be one representative stone for the several dozen unmarked
burials, possibly those I mentioned above.
I visited this site on May 22, 2000 the first time, then again in
2004, when there was one more burial, but no identification. In 2010
Chuck Flint provided me with photos of two more burials in this cemetery
and one of the mass burial stone mentioned above.
