Silver Creek is about 3 miles south of Farmington, or about 4 miles northeast of Garfield, on the Farmington-Garfield Rd at Ryde Rd. It is situated across the road from a tree farm in the south side of the south west corner of the intersection.

This cemetery is situated on the west side of the highway in a grove of trees, and comes upon you as a real surprise out here in the farmland. There seems to be no community left who uses it. I was unable to find out who owns it, and if anyone still maintains it. If anyone knows, please let me know.

The most recent burial I found was 1986. There were a few markers which were difficult to read. An asterisk * has been placed after any name I found no marker for, which was listed in another reading, pub. in the Whitman County Tombstone Inscriptions, Vol. 1, 1972. I cannot vouch for their accuracy.

Also of interest might be this Wagon Train marker, placed in the cemetery. I have not found any history of why it is there, only what is obvious, and only the Wooddy family is listed in the burial list. Perhaps all who came on this wagon train did not settle in this immediate area.

This cemetery is part of the Garfield Cemetery District No 2 and maintained by them. The maintenance consists of mowing, weed eating, and some raking of the pine needles that accumulate. Most who would use this cemetery would be from Farmington WA. At present it is not being used for new burials. There is a possiblility of reviving it when and if the necessary hurdles are met.

I walked and read this cemetery Aug 21, 2002. It includes all existing and legible stones and markers at that time. I have digital photos of most I was able to read, but I charge for copies.
