FOWLER family in 1843 Great Migration

 

William FOWLER b 1778/79 in Albany, New York died Feb 1866. 

In 1818-20 he resided in St Clair Co, Illinois.  He came to Oregon in 1843, then to California in 1844. 

In 1847 he resided in Sonoma, California and worked for General Vallejo. 

He was the son of John FOWLER and Ann Elizabeth KEITH.  His first wife's name is unknown and by her he had a child, but his second wife was Catherine SPEED whom he married in 1816 in Albany, New York and divorced about 1840.  They had five children that I know of: William, Catherine, John Henry, Ann Eliza, and Minerva Jane FOWLER.

 

William FOWLER Jr b c1817 in Albany, New York to William FOWLER and Catherine SPEED.  He died in 1900 in San Ramon, California, and is buried in the Dublin Cemetery. 

He came to Oregon in 1843, then returned to Illinois for his family. 

In 1847 he lived in Calistoga, California where he was a Hotel Keeper.  He attended West Point Military Academy.  He married [1] Rebecca KELSEY before 1846 and [2] Malinda HARLAN about Jul 1846 on the Wagon Train trip between Fort Bridger and Salt Lake. 

By his second wife he had a son William Henry FOWLER.

 

[John] Henry FOWLER b 17 Jun 1822 in Belleville, Illinois, died 18 Oct 1904 in Napa, California.  Son of William FOWLER and Catherine SPEED. 

He came to Oregon in 1843, and went to California in 1844.  He managed the rancho of his father William in 1847 in Napa, California. 

J Henry FOWLER Married Catherine MAGNESS in 1857 in Calistoga, California.  They had five children:

Harriet Ann, Minerva Jane, Tena Katherine, Albert Henry, and Maude Henrietta FOWLER.
