In the name of god amen one thousane five hundred nintie nyne the nintenth day of May in the One and fforteth yere of the reign of Sovrigne Ladye Elizabeth by the grace of god of England ffrance and Ireland Queen defender of the ffaith etc I William Denn of the prshe of Deale in the countie of Kent yeoman beinge sicke in body but yet in good and pfect memorye thankes be unto allmightie god, doe make and ordayne this my last will in manner and forme followinge First I will and give my soule unto allmightie god my maker to Jesus Christ my redemer and to the Holye Gooste my comforter three psons and one Eternall god in whome and by whome I hope to have forgiveness of all my sines[?] And as concerninge my bodie I comitt to the earthe to be buryed in the church yarde of Deale Among the ffaithfull

Item I will and give to the poore people of Deale tenn shillings to be distributed by my Executor at the tyme of my funeral

Item I will and give unto my eldest sonne Thomas Denn Twentie pounds of good and lawfull Englishe money to be paid and delivered unto the said Thomas Denn Immediatlie after the decease of Margaret nowe my wife:

Item I will unto John Denn my second sonne Tenn pounds of good and lawfull money of England to be paid and delivered by my Executor at her Discrecione or otherwise to be paid after the death of my foresaid wife

Item I will and give unto Vinceynt Denn my third sonne tenn pounds of good and lawfull money of England to be paid and delivered unto the said Vincent by myne Executor within one halfe yere next after my Decease

Item I will and give unto Thomas Denn my youngest sonne Tenn pounds of good and lawfull money of England to be paide by my Executor unto the said Thomas when as hee shall accomplish and come to the full adge of Twentie and one yeres

Item I will and give unto every one of my fower daughters that is to saye Marye Denn Elizabeth Denn Marthia Denn & Sara Denn To every eche one of the Twentie poounds a peece of good lawfull Englishe money To be paide by my Executor at the day of their severall marriages or within one quarter of a yeare next after their saide severall marriages or Otherwise to be paide by my Executor unto them or any of them yf they happen not to marry before At their Severall adges of twentie and one yeres

All the residue of money goods moveables and immoveables whatsoever my debts and legacies ffirst paid I will and give unto Margarett my wyfe whome I make and ordayne my sole Executor[.]

And for Overseers of this my will to see it the more effectuallye pformed I doo appoint my two brothers Peter Denn and John Denn

William Denn, yeoman, of Deal, died in late May 1599 and was buried at St. Leonard’s parish church, Deal, on 1 June 1599. William married his first wife, whose name is not known, ca. 1565. They had a daughter named Joane. Following the death of his first wife, he married Margaret ca. 1569. They had eight children, four sons and four daughters. Both their eldest son and their youngest son were named Thomas.
