In the Name of God Amen, the Seavententh day of November in the yeare of our Lord God 1652:
I Bartholomew Newman of Wormshill in the County of Kent Clerke being crazie ( ?) in body, and of good and perfect memory and mind (thanks be given to Almighty God for the same) I doe make and declare this my last will and testament in manner and forme followinge, That is to say :
First and principally I commend my soule into the hands of Almighty God, trusting through his mercie, and by the gratious death and passion of my Saviour and redeemer Jesus Christ to be saved, and to inherit the kingdome of heaven for ever. And my body I will to be buried under the great marble stone in the Chancell att Wormeshill, at the discretion of my Executor, if hee be present or in his absence at the discretion of my neighbours and servants.

Item I give unto my sonne Bartholomew Newman tenn pounds of lawfull money of England to be sent unto him in Barbados in such ware, as my Executor after he hath heard from him thence shall be certified by him to be most for his gaine there.
And if my sonne Barth: Newman be dead at my Decease : my will is that the said tenn pounds be divided between my two sonnes John and Steven.

Item I give unto my sonne Bartholomewes wife five shillings.
Item I give unto my sonne Steven Newman all my library or bookes, five paire of sheetes, one dozen of table napkins, one fether bedd and bolster, one coverlet, one blankette, one silver boule, marked B.A.N. my best and long cloth Colake, my new Clarke Gowne, three hollan shirts: two paire of my best stockins.

Item I give unto my sonne Steven Newman Fiftie pounds of good and lawfull money of England, to be paid to him within six months after my decease.

Item I give unto Alice Reader my Couzen the worth of three pounds, to be paid her in such goods and household stuffe of mine as my Executor and shee shall agree upon.
Item I give unto either of my other two servants that shall be in my service at my death, thirteene shillings and foure pence, more than the wages that shall be due to either of them at my decease.

Item I give unto Barth: Walbanke and his children five shillings
Item I give unto Goodman Houtings impotent daughter five shillings

And of this my last will and testament, I make and ordaine my sonne John Newman my Executor unto whome (my legacies, debts and funeral charges being paid and discharged) I give and bequeath all the rest of my goods, Cattells, Chattells and debts, whatsoever

In witnesse whereof, I have hereunto sett my hand and seale, the day and yeare first above written (signed) Bartholomew Newman

Memorandum, that the word Fiftie was interlined by me, before the sealing, Barth: Newman
Wee whose names be here under written doe wittnesse, by the subscription of our names or markes, that Barthol: Newman of Wormeshill acknowledged for us, that what is written with his owne hand in this paper, sealed with his owne seale, is his last will or testament :

This Will was proved at Westminster: Before the Judges for probate of Wills and granting Administrations, the eleaventh day of the month of September in the yeare of our lord God, one thousand sixe hundred, Fiftie and foure. By the oath of John Newman the sole Executor named in the said will: To whome Administration of all & singular the goods, Chattells and debts of the said deceased was committed. Hee first being sworne by virtue of a Commission to that effecte, well and truly to Administer the same.
