In the Name of God Amen I Peter Norwood of Ashford in the County of Kent Clerk being ill in Body but of sound and perfect mind and memory (God be praised) do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in writing in manner and form following (that is to say)
First I commend my soul into the hands of Almighty God my maker hoping through the meritorious death and passion of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to receive remission and pardon of all my sins And my body I leave to the Earth to receive a decent and Christian Burial in the parish Church of Ashford aforesaid and as touching that Worldly Estate both real and personal which by the blessing of God I now enjoy I thereof as followeth

Imprimis I give and bequeath unto my loving Mother Mary Norwood the sum of twenty pounds of lawfully money of Great Britain to be paid her by my Executor hereinafter named within three months next after my decease

Item I give and bequeath unto my Cozen Mrs Brown one shilling weekly and every week for and during the term of her natural life to be paid out of my Estate at Faversham which I bought of Mr. Tasswell and I do charge the said estate with the payment thereof accordingly

Item I give and bequeath unto the Reverend Mr. John Clough Vicar of Ashford aforesaid all my Gowns Cassocks and bans and to his wife my Gold Sleeve buttons to be delivered within three months next after my decease

Item out of respect to the great Friendship there as been in the Family it is my Will and mind that my Executor hereinafter named shall within three months next after my decease procure a Five pound piece of Gold and give the same to Miss Clough daughter of the said Mr. Clough as a remembrance

Item I give to Mr. Parsons of Oaksted near Limsfrield [Limpsfield] in Surry my grey mare if he shall think to send for the same

Item I make and ordain my loving brother Edward Norwood whole and sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament and I do give and bequeath unto him my said brother all the rest and residue of my goods chattles and personal Estate of what nature or kind soever he paying my just debts legacies funeral expences and the charges of proving of this my Will

Item I give and devise unto my said brother Edward Norwood all and singular my Messuages Lands Tenements and hereditaments and real Estate whatsoever and wheresoever situate lying and being as fully as if herein particularly described and set forth to have and to hold the same and every part and parcell thereof with the appurtenances unto my said brother Edward Norwood his heirs and assigns

Item it is my desire that the Rev�d Mr. Whitfield?, Doctor William Borchwick? if in the country but if not then his brother the Rev�d Mr. Curteis Weightwick the Rev�d Mr. Cobb the Rev�d Mr. Greenhill the Rev�d Mr. Aptly? And the Rev�d Bagnal the younger be supporters of my Pall at my funeral and that the said Mr. Clough and the Rev�d Mr. Bate do walk before my Corps

Item my Will is that my said Executor shall buy ten shillings worth of Bread of each of the four bakers in Ashford (to wit) Mr. Osbourne, Lavenden, Ertzberger and Sympson and the Churchwardens to distribute amongst the people of Ashford aforesaid soon after my decease

And lastly I do hereby revoke all former and other wills by me made and do declare this to be my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I the said Peter Norwood to the first sheet of this my last Will and Testament (contained in one whole sheet of paper and this part of a sheet together annexed) have only set my name but to this part of a sheet my name and seal the two and twentieth day of April in the thirteenth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the second by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith and so forth and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty. Norwood � Signed sealed published and declared by the said Peter Norwood for and as his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who have hereunto in his presence and at his request and in the presence of each other subscribed our names as witnesses the change about described Bread being first interlined in this sheet

The before registered Will of Peter Norwood deceased was proved the 5 day of May 1740 before the Rev�d James Henstridge Clerk lawfull Surrogate to the Worshipfull George Lee Doctor of Laws � � the oath of Edward Norwood the brother and Executor �.
