Will of Mary Pay

of Elham, Kent

The last will and testament nuncupative of Mary Pay late whilest shee lived of the parish of Elham in the County of Kent and within the Archdeaconry of Canterbury Spinster deceased by her uttered and declared in the time of her last sicknes whereof shee dyed shee being then of perfect minde memory and understanding and having an intent and purpose to make her will or dispose of her estate by word of mouth in theise or the like words following, vizt.

Shee gave unto Susan Pay her mother one bond of tenn pounds
and unto her brothers Roger Pay, John Pay and Isaac Pay another bond of three Score pounds owing unto her by one John Taddnall of Dover, Shipp Carpenter, to be equally divided amongst her said three brothers

And further declared that the seaven pounds unto her by her brother John Pay should be equally devided betweene him the said John and the said Roger and Isaac his brothers

And as for the sume of seaventeene pounds seaven shillings and six pence w[hi]ch shee sayd was due and owing unto her by her said brother Isaac, shee sayed shee did freely remitt the said debt and give it unto her sayed brother Isaac
And shee gave unto Edmund Pay her brother one bond of five pounds due and owing unto her from Thomas Medget of Folkestone, fisherman, and such moneys as hee the said Edmund did owe unto her
And unto Richard Pay her brother one bond of thirty pounds owing unto her by Richard Wood of Folkestone in Kent

And shee likewise gave unto Joane Harnden her sister, wife of Bartholomew Harnden of Mersham, one bond of fifteene pounds owing unto her by Edmund Baker of Folkestone aforesaid and all her clothes woollen and linnen to be at her disposing and allso gave unto her the said Joane One trunke, one chest and two boxes with all the linnen and woollen conteyned therein

All wch words or the like in effect were soe uttered and spoken in the presence of:
Susan Pay, Isaac Pay, Richard Pay and Catherine Hogben, witnesses thereunto
Witnesses: Isaac Pay, Katherine Hogben, her marke

Probatum fuit: 11th January 1661/62

Note: Mary Pay was buried at St. Mary the Virgin, Elham, Kent on 28th December 1661
