In the Name of God Amen I Richard Pelland of New Romney in the County of Kent Taylor being sick and weake in body but of sound and perfect memorie and understanding (praised be Almighty God therefore) doe make and ordaine this my last will and Testament in manner and forme following that is to say First I give my Soule to Almighty God who inspired it and my body I will to bee decently buried according to the discretion of my Executor hereafter named

Item I give and bequeath unto Isaac Rutton sonne of Isaac Rutton late of New Romney aforesaid Gentleman by Mary my late deceased wife the summe of Tenn pounds of lawfull mony of England to bee paid by my Executor hereafter named within six moneths next after my decease into the hands of Mr John Mascall of New Romney aforesaid for and towards the putting out and placing of the said Isaac Rutton the sonne to same Trade or imployment as the said John Mascall shall thincke fitt

Item I further give and bequeath unto the said Isaac Rutton the sonne and to Mary Rutton Rebecca Rutton and Elizabeth Rutton Children of my said deceased wife the summe of Seaventy and five pounds of lawfull mony of England to be equally divided betweene them the said Isaac Rutton the sonne and Mary Rebecca and Elizabeth Rutton and to bee paid within six moneths next after my decease into the hands of the said Mr John Mascall to and for their proper uses and benefitts

And I do hereby order that the Receipt or Acquittance of the said John Mascall shall bee a sufficient discharge to my Executor for the Legacies herein before bequeathed
But my will and mind is that in case the said John Mascall doe not upon payment of the respective Legacies before mencioned deliver or cause to bee delivered up to my Executor or his Assignes All such Articles Bonds and other writings as were entered into or made by mee Richard Pelland for touching concerneing or in Consideracion of my marriage with my late deceased wife before named to bee cancelled and made void Then as well the Legacy of Tenn pounds given to Isaac Rutton the sonne and also the legacy of Seaventy and five pounds as aforesaid bequeath to him the said Isaac Rutton the sonn and Mary Rebeccah and Elizabeth Rutton as also all other gifts and bequests to them or any or either of them in this my will herein after mencioned shall bee null void and of none effect any thing herein contained or to bee expressed to the contrary notwithstanding

Item my will and mind further is and I doe hereby order and appoint my Executor gratis and freely to maintaine keepe and provide for the said Isaac Rutton the sonn sufficient and necessary meate drinke lodgeing washing Apparrell and Schooleing for the space of one yeare next after my decease without expecting or demanding any satisfacion recompence or payment for the same

Item I give discharge Acquitt and release unto my Brother John Pelland of Shoreham in the County of Sussex Taylor a debt of forty pounds which is truly and justly owing to mee from my said brother

Item all the residue and remainder of my goods and personall estate of what nature or kind soever my Debts Legacies and funerall expences being first fully paid and discharged I give and bequeath unto my Brother in law Thomas Smith of Portslade in the aforesaid County of Sussex Yeoman

Item I doe hereby make constitute and appoint the said Thomas Smith sole Executor of this my last will and Testament and doe hereby revoke all former wills by mee made

In witnesse whereof to this my last will and testament contained in these two sheets of paper together annexed I have sett to the first sheete my hand and to this last my hand and seale Dated the eighteenth day of March in the third yeare of the reigne of our Soveraigne Lord James the second King of England etc Annoq Domini one Thousand six hundred eighty six Richard Pelland

Signed sealed published and declared by the said Richard Pelland for and as his last will and Testament in the presence of and the word Thomas interlined at two severall places in this last sheet before the ensiling hereof

Decimo octavo die mensis Januarii Anno Domini (Stilo Anglia) Millesimo Sexcentesimo Octagesimo septimo Emanavit Commissio Richardo Elborowe et Roberto Ford Creditoribus principalibus RIchardi Pelland nuper de Nova Romney in Comitatu Cantii defuncti habentis etc Ad Administrandum bona jura et Credita dicti defuncti iuxta tenorem et effectum Testamenti ipsius defuncti (eo quod Thomas Smith Executor et residuarius legatar in dicto testamento nominat expresse renunciavit) De bene et fideliter Administrando eadem ad Sancta Dei Evangelia Jurat
