"This is the Last Will and Testament of me Robert Petman of Broadmead in the Parish of Folkstone in the County of Kent Gentleman...I desire to be decently Interred in my vault in the chancel of ffolkstone Church and I request my Exors hereinafter named will cause a decent stone or Monument of the value of twenty five pounds to be placed over or near to my vault with such inscription thereupon as is now in my iron chest in my present dwelling house
I give ... to six of my most worthy workmen the sum of one guinea each for carrying my corps to be Interred and I desire that the great Bell of ffolkstone Church may toll for me for the space of six hours on the day of my burial for which I bequeath to the sexton the sum of one Guinea for his trouble
I request that six of my most intimate ffriends may be chosen as pall bearers and to each of them I give a Silk Scarf and hat band and a pair of doeskin gloves to the value of five shillings a pair

Also I give ... unto my infant child Robert the Gold Watch that belonged to my late Wife to be delivered to him when he attains the age of fifteen years But in case he dies before that age Then I give...the same watch to my ffriend Mr James Prince
Also I give to my ffriend Mr Charles Coppard of ffindon in the said (?) County of Sussex Gentleman my old silver goblet dated 1620... and after his decease to his brother Thomas Coppard... in remembrance of me and the original owner

Also I give and bequeath..."( text missing in Nat Archives PCC printout) "my late? beloved wife Mary my brother Thomas my nephew Robert Avery Webb of ffolkstone aforesaid Gentleman Mark Sandford the Younger of Walton Farm and the said James Prince the sum of One Hundred Pounds...
Also I give to my Brother John and my niece Mary the daughter of John Webb the sum of ffifty pounds apiece...
Also I give ...to Mrs Hannah Maycock Widow of William Maycock the sum of ten pounds...

Also I give ... to my servants in respect of their faithful service... to my first man servant Ingram Spearpoint the use and occupation of ffoord House and the meadow called the Loos (? Loes, Lees) during the remainder of the...lease of Park and ffoord ffarms... without paying Rent Taxes or other Impositions for the same In case he the said Ingram Spearpoint shall long live
the sum of fforty pounds of like money to John Hayward my Waggoner and the sum of Ten Pounds apiece...to John White my Thresher at ffoord ffarm and John Atwood and Edward otherwise S... Hobday my Labourers...

Also I give ... to my said wife Mary one full moiety or half part of and in those my two newbuilt Messuages or Tenements and in all that piece ... of ffreehold arable land or part whereof the said Messuages ... are erected... Greenstreet part of which land was conveyed to me by the Rt Hon the Earl of Radnor and the residue thereof I purchased of Mr Thomas Valyer To hold the same for my said wife Mary...for the term of her natural life

Also I give... unto my said brother Thomas the remaining moiety ... for the term of his natural life ...after his decease or Disposition thereof or parting with the same...I give...the said moiety to my said wife Mary ... for the term of her natural life ... and immediately after her decease Then I give the said two Messuages or Tenements Lands and Heredits to all and every my child and children that shall be living at the time of my decease...But in case all such children shall die... then... unto the two children of my brother William Elizabeth and Martha and to the said Robert Avery Webb and my said Niece Mary equally...

I am Tenant under two lease from the said Earl of Radnor of Park and ffoord ffarms and another ffarm called Broadmead and part of Townsend and Ingles ffarm...I do give an d devise to my said wife Mary all such Estate Term and Interest that I ... shall have at the time of my decease in (these) ffarms...and desire that my or her Trustees hereafter named do assist my said wife in the due and proper management of the said ffarms...
I give... to my said wife Mary three full fourth parts of all and every my Horses Cows Bullocks Sheep Cattle Husbandry Utensils and Implements whatsoever...together with all such Corn Grain Seeds Hay and Straw that shall be remaining...and all and every my Household ffurniture plate linen and china (except the said silver goblet) that shall be in my said dwelling at my decease together with my Gold Watch...all my Rings and Jewels to be kept by her during her natural life...after her decease or remarriage then I give ...the same to all and every my said children...

Also I give ... my said brother Thomas and the said Robert Avery Webb all such Estate Term and Interest as I my Exors or Admors shall have at the time of my decease in the said ffarms called Park and ffoord ffarms (the bequest to ... Ingram Spearpoint... excepted) ... I give... unto my brother Thomas and the said Robert Avery Webb the remaining one full fourth part of all my ... Horses Cows Bullocks Sheep Cattle Husbandry Utensils and Implements with the remaining third part of all such Corn Grain Seeds Hay and Straw that shall be remaining...
Also I give... unto my said brother Thomas all and every my Household ffurniture and Effects in the the Houses of Park and ffoord ffarms...

and ... unto my wife Mary, Robert Avery Webb, James Prince and Mark Sandford All the Rest Residue and Remainder of my Messuages Lands Tenements and Heredits...and all the Rest... of my monies and securities for monies and all other my estate and Effects whatsoever.. to hold all the same unto my said wife Mary Robert Avery Webb James Prince and Mark Sandford...to place out the same on Government or such other good and sufficient Real Securities... the sum of five hundred pounds secured by me to my said wife before our intermarriage and payable to her in case she survives me...I give.. unto my said wife Mary the Annual Sum of Seventy five Pounds... during the term of her natural life

Also I give and and bequeath unto my said brother Thomas the annual sum of thirty pounds...
unto my niece Elizabeth wife of (blank) Redman of Staple in the County of Kent Carpenter the Annual Sum of ten pounds...
and ... unto my said wife's niece Elizabeth (blank) who now lives with me the Annual sum of Twenty Pounds... until such time as she attains the full age of twenty one years...

I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my said wife Mary the said Robert Avery Webb James Prince and Mark Sandford Exors... my hand and seal the twenty fifth day of October in the Year of our Loird one Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety Eight R. PETMAN Signed Sealed .. in the presence of us... as witnesses

Proved London "the Twenty sixth day of July in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety Nine ... by the oaths of Mary Petman the Widow Relict of the deceased, Robert Avery Webb, James Prince and Mark Sandford the Younger the Exors named in the will..."
