In the Name of God Amen the sixth Day of November Anno Dmi 1685 and in the first yeare of the reigne of our Soveraigne Lord James the Second. ..I Abigail Pettman of the Parish of St George the Martyr in the Citty of Canterbury widow late wife of Robert Pettman late of the said citty and before of Ickham in the county of Kent yeoman deceased being ill in body but yett of good and perfect mind... Doe make and ordaine this my present last will and Testament in manner following... (religious preamble)... to be decently to be interred according to the discretion of mine executors herein named in the parish church of St George the Martyr in the Citty of Canterbury aforesaid as nere to the place where my late deceased uncle Mr Joseph Nicholls was interred as conveniently may be And I desire my good ffriend Dtor Kay to preach my funerall sermon ...and I do hereby order and appoint my loveing Brother in law Mr Christopher Rickard to have sole ordering and management of my funerall according to his Discreton

Item I give unto the poore of the parish of St George the Martyr... the sume of forty shillings and to the poore of the parish of Ickham aforesaid the like sum of forty shillings And to the poore of the parish of Adisham in the county of Kent the like sum of forty shillings...

Item I doe hereby ordaine constitute and appoint my loveing couzen Mr Richard Hawker of the Towne and Porte of Sandwich in the Couty of Kent to be Executor of this my Last Will and Testament in trust for the good and benefitt of my sonne Benjamin Pettman and the child I now go withal untill my said sonn Benjamin shall attaine his age of eighteen yeares and to be guardian to my said children during their severall minorityes...
And I do hereby give unto my said executor all such power right and Authority as by law belongs unto me and which I have being Administratrix of all and singular the goods and chattells of my said deceased husband Robert Pettman
And if it shall happen my said couzen Richard Hawker so dye before my said sonne Benjamin shall attaine his said age of eighteen yeares then I doe hereby ordaine and make my uncle John ffullagar of Langley in the County of Kent yeoman to be my executor in trust for my said children and to be their guardian untill my said sonn Benjamin shall attaine his said age

And I do desiure and appointe my said loveing Brother in Law Christopher Rickard and my loveing sister his wife to have the custody of my choldren...Earnestly desiring my sd brother and sister to be very tender kind and carefull to bring them upp haveing regard to their tender yeares and for their incouragement therein and for their Extraordinary care and paines to be taken for my said poore children who will be left fatherless and motherless after my decease...

Item I give unto my Godsonn Charles Rickard the sume of twenty poundes...
unto my son in law Peter Pettman the sume of twenty poundes as a remembrance of my love and kindness to him...
Whereas I have one sonn by my late deceased Husband named Benjamin before mentioned being now of the age of three yeares and a half or thereabouts And whereas now I am great with child expecting every day to be delivered when God pleases and I being Aministratrix of the goods and chattells of my late deceased husband And as yet there is no distribution by the ordinary of his personall estate I do hereby give and bequeathall such part and share of the said personall Estate which doth and shall of Right belong to me as being Wife of the said Intestate after my Debts Legacyes and ffuneral expenses and probate of this my will being first satisfyed and discharged to my said son Benjamin and to the child I am now great withall to be equally divided between them...if it prove to be a female then I give the full sume of six hundred pounds... to be paid unto her when she shall attaine her age of one and twenty..."

Item I give and devise unto my sonn Benjamin my messuage and lands with their Appurtenances situate lyeing and being in Adisham in the county of Kent and now or late in the tenure or occupation of ...(blank) ffreind To be had and holden to .. Benjamin his heires and assignes for ever

Item I give to my loveing sister Elizabeth Richard my silver trenchard plate
Item I give to my brother Mr Charles Nicholls the sume of five pounds...
and I give to my sister Hannah ffullagar the sume of five poundes...

In witness that this is my last Will and Testament...I have sett my hand and seale and also at the top thereof annexed my seale Dated the Day and Yeare herein first written ABIGAIL PETTMAN signed sealed published and declared ...in the presence of us...

Memorandum Before the signing and sealing and publishing of this my will I doe hereby give and devise unto my sonn in law Robert Pettman all my Estate right will interest and Terme of yeares which I have or may claime to have of and in a certain farme and lands thereunto belonging situate lyeing and being at or nere to a certain place called Uppstreet in the Pish of Chislett in the County of Kent which belongs unto me as being Administrator of my late husband Robert Pettman Deceased by vertue of a lease in writing thereof made to him by a certain Gent called the Governour of the Chest of Chatham in Kent or by what other name they be called or known to be held and holden unto my said sonn Robert Pettman his Executors and Assigns for and during all the Remainder of the terme of yeares therein yett to come and unexpired and this I doe marke to be part of my last will and Testament and desire that it may be soe accepted and taken In witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seale the day and yeare above written It being his fathers Intention he should enjoy the said farme ABIGAIL PETTMAN Witnesses hereunto
