This is the last Will and Testament of me Jane Philcox now residing at Staplehurst in the County of Kent Spinster made and published this eighth day of April one thousand eight hundred and thirty two

I direct my just debts and funeral and Testamentary expences to be fully paid and satisfied by my Executor and Executrix hereinafter named as soon as conveniently may be after my decease
and I give and bequeath unto my Sister Sarah the Wife of Dr George Taylor the sum of five hundred pounds of lawful money of Great Britain

and unto Elizabeth Ottaway of Staplehurst aforesaid Widow the sum of one hundred pounds of like lawful money
and unto William Nash Ottaway of Staplehurst aforesaid Gentleman the sum of one hundred pounds of like lawful money
and unto Jannet the daughter of Thomas Watson of Staplehurst aforesaid Surveyor the sum of one hundred pounds of like lawful money
the same several legacies or sums of money to be respectively payable and paid by my said Executor and Executrix within twelve calendar months next after my decease

I also give and bequeath to my friend Edward Hughes of Chancery Lane London Esquire a handsome gold mourning ring and I direct the same to be delivered to him as soon as conveniently may be after my decease

and as to for and concerning all that my undivided fourth part or share all that messuage farm and land called Quits farm situate in the Parish of Mayfield in the County of Sussex and all my Estate and interest therein I give and devise the same and their appurtenances unto and to the use of my Sisters Mary Philcox Anna Philcox and Elizabeth Philcox their heirs and assigns for ever as tenants in common and not as joint tenants

and as to all the rest and residue of my real and personal Estate and Effects whatsoever and wheresoever I give and bequeath the same and every part thereof unto and to the use of my four Sisters Mary Philcox Anna Philcox Elizabeth Philcox and Sarah Taylor their respective heirs Executors administrators and assigns according to the different natures and qualities thereof respectively equally to be divided between them share and share alike

and I nominate constitute and appoint my said Sister Sarah Taylor and the said William Nash Ottaway joint Executrix and Executor of this my Will hereby revoking all former Wills by me heretofore made and declaring this only to be my last Will and Testament

And I hereby declare my Will to be that my said Executrix and Executor shall be charged and chargeable only for such monies as they shall respectively actually receive by virtue of this my Will and that neither of them shall be answerable or accountable for the other of them but each for her and his own acts receipts and defaults only neither shall either of them be answerable or accountable for any Loss or damage which may happen in the execution of this my Will unless the same shall happen by or through her or her own wilful neglect or default respectively

In Witness whereof I have to this my Will contained in one sheet of paper set my hand and seal the day and year forst above written Jane Philcox

Codicil to my Will made at Staplehurst this present month & year 1832

I desire that Mr Watson & Gillett Ottaway may have a ring
I give to my Brother James the family bible I had from my father and the only reason that I do not leave him money is that I think my Sisters want it most

I give to my Sister Sarah the remainder of my clothes & things of every description for her own use & benefit or to dispose of as she thinks best
