This is the laste Will of me Willya[m] Quylter made demysed and declared the fyrste daye of Januaraye in the second and thyrde yeres of the Reignes of our Soveraigne Lorde and Ladye Phillipp and Mary [1555-1556], by the grace of God of Englande, Fraunce, Naples, Jerusalem, and Ireland, Kinge and Quene, Defenders of the Fayth, Princes of Spaine and Cicillie, Archedukes of Austria, Dukes of Myllayn Burgundye and Brabant, Countes of Haspurge [Hapsburg], Flanders and Tyroll
Consininge? [Concerning?] all my Landes and Tenements, rentes, revercions and Services w[i]th all and singuler there Apptenances [their Appurtenances] w[hi]ch I have in the p[ar]ishes of Staple and Wyngham or ells where in the Countye of Kent

Fyrst I give unto Myldred my wyffe All my Lands and tenementes, rentes, revertions, and S[er]vices w[i]th there app[ur]tenaunces in Consideracion that the vertinnsty? shall bringe upe my chyldren and paye my detts [debts] Legacyes to her owne use untyll Christopher my sonne shall come to and be of the age of twenty foure yeers,
At wch Age I wyll that my sayd sonne Christopher shall have all my sayd lands and tenements, rentes, revercions and svices wth there Apptenancces in Staple and Wingham Aforesayd excepted and resinyde [reserved?] the tenemente in whiche Willyam Marrett? now Dwelleth in wth the garden and the Apptenancces and a Levyn [eleven] Acres of Lane be yt more or lesse lieng in Myllfeilde [Millfield] To have and holde to the same Chrystopher hys heires and assigners for ever

And the sayd Tenement and xj [11] Acr[e]s before resnyd I gyve unto Wyllyam my sonne when he shall come to and be of the age of xxiiijti [24] yeers to have and to holde to hym, his heires and assignes for ever

And I wyll in consyderacion aforesayd that my sayd wyff shall have and preine [receive?] the sayd Tenementes and lands and the p[ro]ffetts and commodytyes thereof to her owne use untyll my sayd sonne William come to and be of the sayd age of xxiiij yeers
Also I give to my sayd wyffe my messuage, gardens and orchard set and beinge in ye p[ar]ishe of Sainte Dunston next wth owt the waulls of the Citie of Cannterbury be all the terme of her naturall Lyffe

And after the deth of the sayd Myldred the sayd mess[uage], Gardens and orcharde wth there Apptennances shall remaine to the sayd Willym my sone his heires and assignes for ever
And yf yt fortune the sayd Christopher my sonne to dye before he come to the sayd Age of xxiiijth yeers and havinge no issew male of hys bodye lawfully begotten then I will All my sayd lands and tenementes, rentes, reverscons and Species? before gyven to the sayd Christopher my sonne shall in forme afore gyven to the sayd Christopher remaine to the sayd Willyam when he shall come to & be of the sayd age of xxiiij yeeres And hys sayd Mother to have the sayd Lands and tenementes and the yssues and p[ro]ffetts thereof untyll the sayd Wylliam come to and be of the same age to her owne use

And yf it fortune my sayd sonne Willyam to have and injoye my sayd Lands and tenementes before given to his sayd Brother Christopher, then I will that the sayd tenement, garden and xj acres of Landes in myllfeld? before gyven to him by thys my Last will shalbe to the use of that chylde wch my sayd wyffe now goyth wth yf yt be a man chylde to have and to holde to hym hys heires and assigners for ever when he shall come and be of the age of xxiiij yeeres and untill the sayd chiylde shall come to the sayde age I wyll my sayd wyffe shall have the sayd tenement, yardes and xj acres of lande wth the Apptenances and the issues and proffetts thereof to her owne use
And the sayd chylde yf yt be a man chylde shall also have the sayd mes[suag]e, Gardens, and orcharde in the p[ar]ishe of Sainte Dunstone aforesayd After the deth of my sayd wyffe and qyffe [gift] in thys my will contayned to the Contrary Notwithstandinge,

and yf yt fortune the sayd Christopher my sonne to marry and have yssue male, And the sayd Christopher to dye or that he come to the sayd Age of xxiiij yeeres, then I will that all the sayd Landes and Tenementes before to the sayd Christopher given shall remaine to the eldist yssue male of the sayd Chrystopher when he shall come to and be of the age of xv [15] yeeres to have and to hold to hym hys heires and assignes for ever
And yf yt fortune the sayd Chrystopher my sonne to dye before hys sayd age of xxiiij yeers and wtout [without] issue male of hys body lawfully begotten, then I will that after the deth of the sayd Wyllyam that the eldest yssue male of the sayd William shall have the sayd Landes and tenements fyrst given to the sayd Chrystopher in fee simple when he shalbe of the age of xv yeers

And yf yt also fortune the sayd Wylliam to dye before hys sayd age of xxiiij yeeres and wwowt [without] yssue male, then I wyll the sayd Landes and tenementes Fyrst to the sayd Christopher given shall remaine to the chylde wch my sayd wyffe now go[e]th wth yf yt be a man chylde when yt shall come to and be of the age of xxiiij [yeers in fee simple
And untyll the same age my sayd wyffe to have the yssues and and proffetts of all the sayd Landes and tenements to her everie use

And yf yt fortune the sayd chylde wch my sayd wyffe now goith with to be a man chylde and have yssue male of hys body Lawfully begotten And the sayd chylde to dye or he come to the sayd age of xxiiij yeers then I will that the said Landes and tenements before gyven to the sayd Chrystopher shall remaine in fee simple to the eldyst yssue male of the sayd man chylde

And yf yt so fortune that my sayd sonnes Christopher, Willia and the sayd chylde wch my sayd wyffe now goith wth be a man chylde do dye before the sayd severall ages of xxiiij yeers and wthout yssue male, then I will that the sayd Myldred my wyffe shall have and injoye all the sayd Landes and tenements fyrst given to the sayd Christopher for all the the terme of her naturall lyffe and the yssues and proffetts therof cominge to her owne use
And after her deth I will that the sayd Landes and tenementes shall remayne to Symon Quylter the sonne of Thomas my sone and to the heires males of hys body lawfully begotten And in defaulte of suche yssue the sayd Landes and tenementes to remaine to Wyllyam Quylter brother in fee simple

Provyded allwayes that duringe the nonage of every yssue wch shall have and injoye by vertue of thys my last wyll my sayd wyffe shall have the sayd landes, and the yssues and proffetts thereof and further I will that my sayd wyffe shall have and Injoye all my sayd Landes and tenementes in forme aforesayd to her gyven wthout impechment of any maner of waste therein to be had, suffered or done

Also I will that yf the sayd Christopher my sonne have and enioye the sayd my landes and tenementes to hym before limited and apointed, that then the sayd Chrystopher or any other p[er]son wch shall have and Injoye the sayd Landes and tenementes after the sayd my sonne Christopher yf he had lyved shoulde have had and injoyed the sayd Landes and tenements shall pay yeerly to John Quylter my sonne xls [40s] of lawfull Englyshe money at two termes in the yeer by equal porcions, that ys to saye, the feste of the Annunciacion of Sainte Mary the Virgin And Sainte Michaell tharchangell for all the terme of hys natural Lyffe
And in defaulte of payment of the sayd yeerly Annuitye of xls or any p[ar]te thereof yt shalbe lawfull to the sayd John and hys Assignes to distrayne in every pte of the sayd Landes and tenementes and the same distres to detaine untyll all suche Arrearages of the sayd Annuytie [Annuity] then beinge behinde be fully satysfyed and payd

And further I wyll that yf my sayd Landes and tenements before gyven to Christopher my sonne fortune to come to the possession of the sayd Simon by vertue of thys my wyll then I wyll that the sayd Simon shall pay yeerly to the said John Quylter yf he be then Livinge iiij li [£4] to be payd in forme as the sayd xls And so no payment to drystraine

And yf yt vertue my sayd sonnes Christopher and Willyam to Lyve untyll ther sayd severall ages of xxiiij yeers Then I will that the sayd Christopher Also do paye yeerly to the sayd Chylde which my sayd wyffe goith wth yf yt be a man chylde duringe her naturall Lyfe xls of Lawfull inglyshe money at the sayd fests of owre Ladye Sainte Mary and Sainte Michell to be payd
And in defaule of payment of the sayd Annell [Annual] rent of xls or any pte thereof; yt shalbe Lawfull for hym or hys assignes to enter in to all the sayd Landes and tenementes and every pte thereof and to distrayne and suche distresses so taken to detaine untyll the Arreredges thereof be fully payd and satisfyed

And yf yt so fortune the sayd Simon Quylter by vertue of this my Last wyll to have and Injoye my sayd Landes and tenementes to Chrystopher Fyrst gyven Then I will that the sayd Symon or his heires or suche other wch shall have and Injoye the sayd Landes and tenementes in the ryght of the sayd Symon or by vertue of thys my wyll shall within one yeer next after the sayd Landes or tenementes shall come to hys or the[i]r possessons paye to every of my daughters or to the chyldren of suche of my daughters vj li , the chyldren to have amonges them onely the mothers pte
And yf the sayd Symon refuse to paye the sayd money then I wyll that Wyllyam hys brother or his heires males of the sayd Wyllyam be then dell [delivered?] the sayd Landes and tenementes and he or they to paye the sayd some or somes of money to my sayd daughters and ther chyldren as the sayd Simon should have payd

Also yf yt fortune the sayde chylde wch my sayd wyff goith wth to dye wthowt yssue male of hys body Lawfully begotten and before hys sayd Age of xxiiijth yeers, Then I wyll after the deth of my sayd wyff the sayd tenement and xj acres of Lande in Myllefeld shall remaine to the sayd William Quylter the sonne of the said Thomas and hys heires for ever

And my sayd mess[uag]e Gardens and Orchards in the sayd pishe of Sainte Dunston of my sayd wyffe or suche other p[er]son or psons as by ther shalbe apointed be gyven and distrybuted to any of my sayd he daughters and myne & to them or so maney [many] of them and ther chyldren as to her or her Depute [Deputy] or assignes shall have good
