In the Name of God Amen I Elizabeth Relfe and Tenterden in the Countie of Kent widdowe the Relict and executor of the last will and testament of Richard Relfe late of Tenterden aforesaid gentlemen deceased beinge weake in bodie yet of sound and perfect memoryie Thankes be given to Almightie God for the same, doe make and ordaine this my last will and Testament in manner and forme followinge;
And in the first place I bequeath my soule to God that gave it beinge assured of salvacon through the merite and mediacon of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ And my bodie I commit to the earth from whence it came to be decently buried at the discretion of my executor herein after named;

Item I give and bequeath unto Thomas Relfe my eldest sonne tenne pounds of Current English money to be paid him by my executor within the space of one yeare next after my decease;
Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Scatterthwayt my gold ringe with the deaths’ head on it,
And I also give unto my daughter Susan my gold ringe beinge my weddinge ringe; which was given me when I married Mr Richard Relfe my late husband deceased both the said ringes to be delivered to them within one moneth next after my decease;

Item I give unto Myrriam the wife of my sonne Richard Relfe twentie shillings to buy her a ringe
Item I give unto Richard Relfe sonne of Arthur Relfe my sonne deceased twentie pounds of lawfull money of England to be paid him by my executor at his age of foure and Twentie yeares if he live so longe; otherwise the legacie to be void;
And I give and bequeath unto my grandchild Elizabeth Relfe daughter of my said sonne Arthur Relfe the summe of tenne pounds of lawfull English money To be paid to her at her age of one Twentie yeares if she live so longe otherwise the legacie to be void
Item I give and bequeath unto my lovinge sonne in lawe Goddard Butler five pounds of current English money To be paid him within sixe moneths next after my decease

Item I give and bequeath unto Richard Relfe my sonne all my lease; interest and terme of yeares yet to come and unexpired of and in the Lands, Tenements and hereditaments now or late of William Thornton lyinge in Sandhurst in the said Countie of Kent
And I also give and bequeath .. all the rest of my goods and Chattells reall and personall not herein before given or bequeathed unto my said sonne Richard Relfe whome I make sole executor of this my last will and Testament

And I earnestly intreat my said lovinge sonne in lawe Goddard Butler to be overseer of this my will and to be aydinge and assisting to my said executor in the execution thereof;
In witnesse whereof I have to this my last will and testament set my hand and seale Dated the first day of July in the yeare of our Lord one Thousand sixe hundred Fiftie and foure, 1654 Elizabeth Relfe
Subscribed sealed and published in the presence of Edward Short, Thomas Huckstopp

Be it remembred that the sixth day of September in the yeare of our Lord One Thousand sixe hundred fiftie five I the above named Elizabeth Relfe the testatrix did ratifie and confirme my aforesaid Last will and testament with the addicon thereunto

That I doe give and bequeath unto Phillip Satterthwayte Clerke (husband of my abovenamed daughter Elizabeth Satterthwayte) Twentie pounds to be paid unto him by my abovenamed executor within foure moneths next after the decease upon condicon that at the time of payment thereof the said Phillip doe enter into obligacon of Fortie pounds to my executor for the payment of twentie pounds of lawfull money of England within three moneths next after the decease of the said Phillip unto and amonge such of children upon the bodie of the said wife begotten as shalbe then livinge equally to be divided betweene them,

and with this addicon also to my said will that, I doe give and bequeath unto the above named Goddard Butler twentie pounds to be likewise paid unto him by my said executor within foure moneths next after my decease upon condicon also that at the time of paymt thereof the said Goddard doe enter into obligacon of Fortie pounds to my executor for the payment of Twentie pounds of lawfull money of England within three months next after the decease of the said Goddard unto and amonge such of the children of my abovenamed daughter Susan his wife by Thomas Winder her former husband and by him the said Goddard begotten as shalbe the livinge equally to be divided between them

And if either the said Phillip or Goddard shall refuse to enter into such obligacon as aforesaid That then the legacies or legacie so given to them or him so refusinge shalbe void.
Witnesse my hand the day and yeare Last before menconed The marke of Elizabeth Relfe, Witnesses to the within menconed confirmation, addicons and subscription thereunto by the within named Elizabeth Relfe the Testatrix

This will was proved at London before the Judges for probate of wills and grantinge Administrations lawfully authorized the sixteenth day of March in the yeare of our Lord (accordinge to the Computacon of the Church of England) one Thousand sixe hundred Fiftie sixe by the oath of Robert Relfe (sic) the naturall and lawfull sonne of the said deceased and sole executor named in the said Will, To whom was committed Administracon of all and singular the said deceaseds goods, Chattells and Debts He beinge first in due forme of lawe sworne well and truely to administer/

Notes:
Elizabeth Relfe, widow was buried 4 March 1656/7, St Mildred, Tenterden, Kent.
Her husband, Richard Relfe, was buried 3 April 1654, Tenterden (see also Richard Relph Probate 6 May 1654 PROB 11/242/201).
Elizabeth Maplesden married Richard Relphe 13 August 1605, Benenden, Kent.

Arthur Relfe was baptised 10 April 1608, Benenden. He married Martha Huxtead/Huckstepp (1614-51) 20 June 1636, Cranbook.
Elizabeth Relfe was baptised 7 January 1610, Benenden. She married Dr Philip Saterthwaite (bap. 11 Feb 1600, Lamport, Northants) 30 November 1634, St Margaret at Cliffe, Kent. At the time of marriage he was the schoolmaster at Tenterden Free School. He was Vicar of Birling, Kent until 1643 and from 1660-66, Rector of Ibstock, Leics. (See PROB 11/322/158, probate dated 26 October 1666 for Phillip Satterthwaite, Doctor of Bromley, Kent.

Suzan Relfe was baptised 5 February 1614/15, Tenterden. She married Thomas Winder (1609-41) 23 June 1636, Rolvenden, Kent.
Goddard Butler was buried 25 March 1663, Tenterden.
Richard Relfe was baptised 25 March 1621, Tenterden. He married Marian Odiarn (1625-84), 10 March 1645/6, Tenterden and was buried 4 September 1690, Tenterden.
