This is the Last Will and Testament of me Thomas Reynolds of Week Street, Maidstone in the County of Kent Licensed Victualler

Whereby from and after payment of all my just debts funeral and testamentary expences I do hereby give devise and bequeath unto my dear friend John Stevens of Maidstone aforesaid Clerk to Mr. Agar, Governor of the County Gaol at Maidstone and my beloved Wife Harriett their Heirs Executors administrators and assigns all and every my freehold Estates Land and Hereditaments situate lying and being in Maidstone aforesaid Frinstead? and Short? in the said County of Kent or elsewhere
And also all and every my money and debts due or owing to me on mortgage, security, bond, note or otherwise, plate, linen, china, furniture and all other my Estate and Effects both real and personal To hold the same unto and to the use of them the said John Stevens and my said Wife Harriett their Executors administrators and assigns according to the different natures qualities and tenures of the same respectively

Upon trust that they or the survivor of them or the Heirs Executors or Administrators of such Survivor do and shall convert into money such property, Estate and Effects as shall not consist of money or Cash by public auction or otherwise at such times and in such lots or parcels as to them shall seem most expedient and shall and do forthwith retain and pay the net proceeds or produce thereof together with all other monies subject as aforesaid to my said Wife Harriett to and for her own absolute use and benefit

Provided always and it is hereby declared that the receipt of the said Trustees or Trustee for the time being shall be a good discharge to purchasers and all other persons paying any money to them her or him under any of the trusts of this my will and that such purchasers or other persons shall not afterwards be liable to see to the application of the monies paid by them respectively or be answerable for any misapplication or the nonapplication thereof

Provided also and I hereby declare that on the death refusal or incapacity to act of either of them my said Trustees or any Trustee or Trustees to be appointed in his or their place or stead it shall be lawful for the acting Trustee or Trustees for the time being of this my Will or the Executors or Administrators of the last acting Trustee to appoint a new Trustee or Trustees in the place or stead of such Trustee so dying refusing or becoming incapable to act as aforesaid and thereupon the said Hereditaments Trust Estates and property shall be conveyed and assured so that the same may vest in such new Trustee or Trustees jointly with the surviving or continuing Trustee solely as the case may require And in his her or their Heirs Executors adm[inistrat]ors and assigns to the use upon the trusts and for the ends intents and purposes hereinbefore declared
And that every such new Trustee either before or after such conveyance shall have and may exercise the same powers and authorities as if he had been appointed a Trustee by this my Will and that none of the Trustees appointed or to be appointed as aforesaid shall be answerable for the other of them or for the acts deeds or defaults of the other of them nor for involuntary losses nor for money received under receipts in which they shall join for conformity and that the present and every future Trustee shall and may reimburse themselves and each other out of the said trust premises or out of any moneys that may come into their hands by virtue of these presents all costs and expences to be incurred by them in the execution of the trusts aforesaid or any wise in relation thereunto

And I appoint the said John Stevens and my said Wife Harriett Executor and Executrix of this my Will and I hereby revoke all other Wills by me at any time heretofore made and I do declare this present writing contained in three sheets of paper to be my last Will and Testament

In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal (to wit) my hand to the two preceeding sheets and my hand and seal to this third and last sheet this thirtieth day of June one thousand Eight hundred and thirty

Signed sealed published and declared by the said Thomas Reynolds the Testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who in his presence and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as Witnesses thereto the same having been first read over and fully explained to the Testator and the interlineation after the first word of the twenty third line in the first sheet thereof having been duly made

Proved at London 26 October 1830 before the Judge by the oaths of John Stevens and Harriett otherwise Harriott Reynolds Widow the Relict the Executors to whom adm[inistrati]on was granted having been first sworn by Comon [Commission] duly to Administer.

Notes:
Thomas Reynolds, Widower and Harriett Barton, Spinster, both o.t.p., were married at All Saints, Maidstone, Kent on 5th April 1830 by Licence.
Thomas Reynolds was buried at All Saints on 24th September 1830, his residence is given as Week Street, Maidstone.
Thomas Reynolds, bachelor first married Elizabeth Barden, spinster, on 22nd October 1820 at St. Faith, Maidstone, Kent.
1824 Directory - Thomas was at the Three Compasses, Week-st, Maidstone. By 1832 Robert Pattenden had taken over as the landlord.
