thousand eight hundred and twenty two between nathan & Caty Bray of the
County of Pulaski and Commonwealth of Kentucky of the one part and James
Hargis of the County and Commonwealth afor. of the other part, Witnesseth
that the said Nathan Bray & Caty Bray his Wife for and in consideration of
one hundred dollars to William Alexander in hand paid the receipt whereof
which is hereby acknowledged agreeable to a contract between the said
William Alexander and the said Nathan Bray on account of the assignment or
transfer of the right of said land unto the said Nathan Bray and the said
Nathan Bray and Caty Bray for themselves their heirs or assigns. The
bargain and sale doth hereby acknowledge unto all that track or parcel of
land situate in Pulaski County and the waters of buck creek containing by
survey 25 acres be the same more or less bounded as follows (towit)

aforesaid tract of land and premises unto the said James Hargis his heirs

but no further and if the land should be lost by any latter or prior claim

will to my dauter Elizabeth Bradley the place where She now lives Contain 2

Bradley pay to the Heirs of Berilan Price the just Same of fifty dollars

     William Hargis was born in 1779 at Virginia.⁴ He was the son of John Hargis and Jane Pyron.^2,3 William Hargis married Rachel Meece on 16 January 1804 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.⁴ William Hargis died in May 1860 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.^2,3 He was buried in 1860 at Baker-Mounce Cemetery, Pulaski County, Kentucky.⁵

     Nancy M. "Nannie" Stewart was born in 1879 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.² She married William Franklin Meece, son of Cyrenius Meece and Rebecca Ann Smiley, on 29 October 1896 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.²

     Lula D. Barber was born on 11 May 1880 at Crittenden, Missouri.¹ She married Thomas Bray, son of Martin Van Buren Bray and Mary Ann (Polly) Stogsdill, on 6 October 1895 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.² Lula D. Barber died on 9 November 1965 at Cincinnati, Ohio, at age 85.³

     Dudley Zachry Hargiss was born in 1886 at Hughes Springs, Texas.¹ He was the son of Thomas Alexander Hargiss and Martha E Bruton.¹ Dudley Zachry Hargiss married Mattie Glover.¹ Dudley Zachry Hargiss married Eddie Pratt.¹ Dudley Zachry Hargiss died in 1946 at Stanford, Texas.¹ He was buried at County Line Cemetery, six miles east of Daingerfield, Texas.¹
     He went by the name Jack. He owned a big farm and was a barber in
Hughes Spring. He was a big man, and a flashy dresser. He was very
handsome and loved children.¹

     Sabra E. Bray was born on 14 September 1881 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.² She was the daughter of George Washington Bray and Dicey Ellen Hargis.¹ Sabra E. Bray married Linville Walter Dykes, son of Elijah L. Dykes and Rachel Hargis, on 26 April 1900 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.³ Sabra E. Bray died on 25 May 1919 at Pulaski County, Kentucky, at age 37.² She was buried after 25 May 1919 at Piney Grove Cemetery, Pulaski County, Kentucky.²

     William Logan Bray was born on 26 January 1883 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.¹ He was the son of George Washington Bray and Dicey Ellen Hargis.¹ William Logan Bray married Lizzie Ellen Hunt on 19 October 1905 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.² William Logan Bray died on 27 December 1960 at Pulaski County, Kentucky, at age 77.¹ He was buried after 27 December 1960 at Rock Lick Cemetery, Pulaski County, Kentucky.¹

     Minnie J. Bray was born in January 1890 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.¹ She was the daughter of George Washington Bray and Dicey Ellen Hargis.² Minnie J. Bray married Joseph Crow on 20 January 1907 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.¹ Minnie J. Bray died at Pulaski County, Kentucky.² She was buried at Piney Grove Cemetery, Pulaski County, Kentucky.²

     George Milford Bray was born in May 1886 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.¹ He was the son of George Washington Bray and Dicey Ellen Hargis.¹ George Milford Bray married Lurena Davidson on 20 May 1906 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.² George Milford Bray died in July 1915 at Pulaski County, Kentucky, at age 29.¹ He was buried in July 1915 at Rock Lick Cemetary, Pulaski County, Kentucky.¹

     Mary Elizabeth Bray was born on 22 February 1879 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.⁴ She was the daughter of George Washington Bray and Dicey Ellen Hargis.³ Mary Elizabeth Bray married Robert Andrew Herrin on 26 April 1905 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.⁴ Mary Elizabeth Bray died on 23 March 1967 at Pulaski County, Kentucky, at age 88.² She was buried after 23 March 1967 at Clay Hill Cemetery, Pulaski County, Kentucky.²

     Amanda Martha Bray was born on 1 January 1892 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.² She was the daughter of George Washington Bray and Dicey Ellen Hargis.² Amanda Martha Bray died on 28 March 1957 at Pulaski County, Kentucky, at age 65.² She was buried after 28 March 1957 at Rock Lick Cemetary, Pulaski County, Kentucky.²
     Twin to Sarah Opha Bray. Buried in Rock Lick Cemetery. Unmarried. Lived with Lucy Earp Hun t and they operated a store/post office.

     Sarah Orpha Bray was born on 1 January 1892 at Pulaski, Kentucky.¹ She was the daughter of George Washington Bray and Dicey Ellen Hargis.¹ Sarah Orpha Bray married Everett Mounce, son of James L. Mounce and Martha A. Alexander, on 3 October 1911 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.² Sarah Orpha Bray died before 1928 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.² She was buried at Piney Grove Cementery, Pulaski County, Kentucky.²

     Frank Bray was born on 22 June 1894 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.¹ He was the son of George Washington Bray and Dicey Ellen Hargis.² Frank Bray married Florence B. "Flonnie" Phelps on 9 December 1916 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.¹ Frank Bray died on 8 October 1982 at Cincinnati, Ohio, at age 88.¹ He was buried at Landmark Cemetery, Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio.¹

     Otis Bray was born in November 1899 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.¹ He was the son of George Washington Bray and Dicey Ellen Hargis.¹ Otis Bray married Alpha Phelps on 5 March 1930 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.² Otis Bray died in December 1994 at Akron, Summit County, Ohio, at age 95.² He was buried at Akron, Summit County, Ohio.²

     Maranda Catherine Phelps was born on 20 March 1865 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.² She married Cyrus Milford Hargis, son of Samuel Bailey Hargis and Elizabeth W. Whitaker, on 1 February 1883 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.¹ Maranda Catherine Phelps died on 13 February 1899 at Pulaski County, Kentucky, at age 33.²

     David Bruton Hargis Jr. was born on 10 December 1919 at Orange, Orange County, Texas, Us.¹ He was the son of David Bruton Hargiss Sr. and Fleda Curtis Camp.¹ David Bruton Hargis Jr. married Dorothy Lee Fitzsimmons in 1942 at Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon.¹ David Bruton Hargis Jr. and Dorothy Lee Fitzsimmons were divorced.¹ David Bruton Hargis Jr. died in 1988 at Beaumont, Texas.¹
     David grew up in Orange Texas. He studied music in high school,taught
elementary school music for one year after finishing high school, then
went to University of Texas, where he majored in music and played in
the Longhorn band.
He left school to join the army for WWII, serving in army bands in
Portland Oregon and Jacksonville Beach Florida. He also served on
beach patrols on the Florida coast, and later learned to fly in the
Army Air Corps.
After the war, he returned to Texas. He played in the NBC Symphony
Orchestra, and in the orchestra of Toscanini. Taught band in
Sanderson Texas. He returned to University of Texas and finished
music degree. Taught band and chorus in Fredricksburg TX. Returned to
Orange, and worked in auto sales for Chevrolet dealer. In 1953, went
to Southerm Methodist University in Dallas to get Chartered Life
Underwriter certification. Worked in Insurance sales in Austin, Fort
Worth, and Corpus Christi until 1959.
After spending some time in the hospital, he returned to the
music teaching profession. He taught in Bandera TX, 1959-60. Ill
health kept him from working most of the next year, but he resumed
teaching in Bridge City TX for 1961-62. He taught at Little Cypress
High School in Orange from 62 until 1968. He then taught music in the
Beaumont schools for two years before retiring in 1970.

     Floyd Hargiss was born circa 1880 at Hughes Springs, Texas.¹ He was the son of Thomas Alexander Hargiss and Martha E Bruton.¹

     Harriet Frances Barnes was born on 12 April 1875 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.¹ She married Cyrus Milford Hargis, son of Samuel Bailey Hargis and Elizabeth W. Whitaker, on 14 February 1900 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.¹ Harriet Frances Barnes died on 8 August 1921 at Pulaski County, Kentucky, at age 46.¹ She was buried at in Whetstone Cemetery, Pulaski County, Arkansas.¹

     Linville Walter Dykes was born on 24 October 1871 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.² He was the son of Elijah L. Dykes and Rachel Hargis.² Linville Walter Dykes married Sabra E. Bray, daughter of George Washington Bray and Dicey Ellen Hargis, on 26 April 1900 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.¹ Linville Walter Dykes died on 4 August 1937 at Pulaski County, Kentucky, at age 65.²

     Lizzie Ellen Hunt was born on 28 March 1882 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.¹ She married William Logan Bray, son of George Washington Bray and Dicey Ellen Hargis, on 19 October 1905 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.² Lizzie Ellen Hunt died on 22 December 1975 at Pulaski County, Kentucky, at age 93.¹ She was buried in 1975 at Rock Lick Cemetery, Pulaski County, Kentucky.¹

     Robert Andrew Herrin was born on 23 November 1882 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.^2,1 He married Mary Elizabeth Bray, daughter of George Washington Bray and Dicey Ellen Hargis, on 26 April 1905 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.³ Robert Andrew Herrin died on 28 April 1967 at Pulaski County, Kentucky, at age 84.² He was buried in 1967 at Clay Hill Cemetery, Pulaski County, Kentucky.²
     His nickname was "Andy."²

     Everett Mounce was born circa 1890 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.¹ He was the son of James L. Mounce and Martha A. Alexander.² Everett Mounce married Sarah Orpha Bray, daughter of George Washington Bray and Dicey Ellen Hargis, on 3 October 1911 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.²

I am responding to your Mounce Family Line. The information that I have on my family is limit ed and hoping to get more. My ggrandfather Everett Lee Mounce (b 1890) married Maudie L. Whit aker (b 1904). They had a son named Arlis Lee Mounce (b 1928) in Bent KY. Everett had a prio r marriage to Sara Bray and had 5 children named Eddice Glen Mounce, Frankie L. Mounce, Ann a Lou, Marie and Dorthy Mounce - all from Somerset, KY. My dad Eddice, married and settled i n Norwood, OH. Dorothy and Marie are both now living in Indiana. Any relation to your Mounce?

     Alpha Phelps was born circa 1899 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.¹ She married Otis Bray, son of George Washington Bray and Dicey Ellen Hargis, on 5 March 1930 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.²

     Lurena Davidson was born in September 1884 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.¹ She married George Milford Bray, son of George Washington Bray and Dicey Ellen Hargis, on 20 May 1906 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.² Lurena Davidson died in October 1961 at Pulaski County, Kentucky, at age 77.¹ She was buried in 1961 at Rock Lick Cemetery, Pulaski County, Kentucky.¹
