     William Holt Sr. was born circa 1752 at Lunenburg County, Virginia.^1,2,4 He was the son of Ambrose Holt and Barbara Estes.^1,2,3 William Holt Sr. married (?) Heard circa 1768 at Virginia.⁵ William Holt Sr. married Eliza Jane Andrews on 25 October 1780 at North Carolina Bobbette Clark thinks this is the mother of William Holt of Hinds County, MS. I am not convinced.⁶ William Holt Sr. married Susan Carper on 25 October 1780 at Wilkes County, North Carolina.^1,2,5,4 William Holt Sr. was sealed as a spouse of Eliza Jane Andrews on 26 October 1970.⁶
     I am making an assumption that William Holt, Sr. is the father of William Holt who died in Hinds County, MS in 1836. I do know that William Holt of Lunenburg County, VA had a son named William who would be the right age for my William. Also William of Lunenburg County, VA moved into TN on the route that would have led to the Natchez Trace and Raymond, MS where William Holt purchased land in 1822. I can't prove this relationship, but I have a feeling it is true.⁷ A William Holt from Texas indicates that he doesn't think this is our ancestor - need to keep looking.⁶ William Holt Sr. was baptized in the LDS church on 18 December 1969.⁶ He received his endowment on 14 January 1970.⁶ He was sealed as a child to , son of Ambrose Holt and Barbara Estes, on 4 October 1978.⁶

     Richard Holt Sr. was born circa 1628 at Rochdale, Lancashire, England.^1,2 He was the son of Robert Holt and Dorothy Heywood.^1,2 Richard Holt Sr. married Elizabeth Hudson, daughter of Edward Hudson and Dorothy Heywood, in 1660 at Virginia.³ Richard Holt Sr. married Margaret Plunkett circa 1680 at Essex County, Virginia.³ Richard Holt Sr. died in 1693 at Essex County, Virginia.²

     Robert Holt was born in 1603 at Rochdale, Lancashire, England.^1,2 He was baptized on 16 January 1603 at Rochdale, Lancashire, England.³ He married Dorothy Heywood on 19 December 1625 at Cathedral, Manchester, Lancashire, England.⁴ Robert Holt married Christian Bonnifield on 28 January 1657 at St. Marys County, Maryland.⁴ Robert Holt died in July 1661 at St. Marys County, Maryland.²
     Robert Davidson, Joan Ifland and Dixie Lee Briggs believe Robert Holt was Richard Holt's father based on records from St. Mary's County, MD. Robert Holt was born in England around 1603 and came to St. Mary's Co. MD in 1646 from Rochdale, Lancashire, ENG (now part of greater Manchester) with his wife and four children. St. Mary's was first settled in 1634 and it remained a small fort with a few settlers until 1637 when the settlers began to claim their oqwn land for farming. In 1645 the English Civil War began and St. Mary's was taken over by a Cromwell supporter. Leonard Calvert recaptured St. Mary's for the crown around 1650. Robert may have immigrated because of his positi9on (whatever it was) in the Civil War. Many of the well to do Holt's in the Rochdale area supported the King. St. Mary's was founded as a Catholic colony but local statute was passed declaring religious tolerance in the 1650s. The "Hundred" in VA and MD were semi communal groups that worked the land together and shared property in or near stockades for safety.

Robert claimed land, took up farming, worked as a cooper, was a member of St. Michaels Hundred and St. Georges Hundred, and took in a border named Edward Hudson. Soon Robert became estranged from his wife which is well documented in the Maryland Archives. She had a relationship with Hudson and the two were charged with adultry. Robert got a divorce (or so he thought) then married Christian Bonnifield. Soon thereafter he was charged with bigamy. The case was dismissed but Robert was charged again as he continued to live with Christian. This case was later dropped because of the death of Robert.⁵ Robert Davidson, Joan Ifland and Dixie Lee Briggs believe Robert H=. October 1998, found information on internet that Robert Holt immigrat ed to Maryland after their children were born.⁶

     Benjamin Wheatley Holt was born on 6 April 1806 at Wayne County, Tennessee.^1,2 He was the son of Ambrose Holt II and Nancy Murry.^1,2 Benjamin Wheatley Holt married Sarah Garner Curtis on 5 April 1833 at Wayne County, Tennessee.^1,2 Benjamin Wheatley Holt died on 6 March 1894 at Wayne County, Tennessee, at age 87.² He was buried after 6 March 1894 at Holt Cemetery, Wayne County, Tennessee.²

     Joseph Holt was born on 18 June 1808 at Wilkes County, North Carolina, according to the Mormon Ancestral File of 13 Oct. 1994.¹ He was the son of Ambrose Holt II and Nancy Murry.¹ Joseph Holt was born on 19 August 1808 at Wilkes County, North Carolina.² He married Nancy Curtis on 14 May 1828 at Wayne County, Tennessee.² Joseph Holt died in November 1898 at Wayne County, Tennessee, at age 90.²
     Joseph and Nancy had the following children: Sarah, Ambrose, William, John, Ann, Benjamin, Nancy, and Austin. They stayed on Big Cypress Creek, living on the Old Natchez Trace. The Cypress Inn was only about two miles south. There must have been a lot of interesting events that happened along that old Trace. Joseph was appointed postmaste for Cypress Inn on Oct. 17, 1857. His family must have also love the new nation they were living in as all their sons and two of their sons-in-law joined the Union Army during the Civil War. One son and one son-in-law lost their lives in that conflict. Joseph and his family were farmers.²

     Ambrose (2) Holt was born in 1836 at Wayne County, Tennessee.¹ He was the son of Ambrose Holt II and Nancy Murry.¹

     Dicy Powell was born in 1795 at North Carolina.¹ She married William Holt Holt IV, son of Ambrose Holt II and Nancy Murry, circa 1812 at Wilkes County, North Carolina.¹
