  1. The following entry is from the Hartzell-Price History entry for Susanna Margeret Hartzell, who married Peter Barndt in 1778.
The grandfather of Peter Bernd, Henry Bernd along with his brother Frederick purchased two small tracts from their father on May 12, 1783. On September 5, 1786 they entered into an agreement to erect a saw mill on the northeast branch of the Perkiomen Creek (generally known as the Branch, Creek, the mill to be located on Frederick Berndts land and the dam on Henry Bernd's land. Each was to pay one-half of the building cost of the building and repairs and each to receive one-half-the profits; if any. Frederick was given the privilege of erecting a grist mill on the small mill race and should he exercise this privilege then Henry could take over the saw-mill by paying one-half of the cost of the same; allowing far dep- reciation, and in case of a dispute as to the amount to be paid the matter should be arbitrated by three saw-millers; whose decision should be final,, Frederick exercised his option and erected a grist mill, The date has not been ascertained but it was probably about 1796; as in that year Henry took over the saw-mill which operation continued until about 1840 when it was discontinued.
