  2. Residences are from various years of the Philadelphia Directory through 1930 which are available at the Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania. It is not clear whether these were home or work addresses since John owned his own shoe repair store. All list his profession as "shoes" or "shoe repair." 1900 Census indicates they lived on "Bodine St." 1900 Census indicates Indiana Ave. 1889 directory has no listing. The 1930 Directory is the only one that lists wives' names (Annie).
  3. Birth and death info is from SSDI of John A. "Steinbruckne" 386-09-5142. Birth year is corroborated by 1900 Census. Death year and place is consistent with my personal recollection. Wife, Elizabeth SSDI 162-10-2539 b. Jan. 12, 1902, d. Feb. 1979 Hollywood, FL.
  4. Birth and death info is from SSDI of Alfred "Steinbruckne" 161-01-2667. Birth year is corroborated by 1900 Census.
  5. Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Interment files, interred 5/13/36. Age listed as 71 yrs, 6 mo. Gravestone. Gustava Steinmann and Theresa Stirnemann, and Bernard Pfleger are buried in the same lot with John Steinbruckner, John Troy, Alfred Hedglin, and Anna "Steinbraeckner". Bernard Pfleger appears to be Anna's nephew (see 1920 Census). Theresa Stirnemann was born Theresa Pfleger and is Anna's sister. She married Gustava Stirnemann (Source: Theresa's grandson, Ira Majo).

  7. 1910 Census
  8. 1920 Census John Steinbruckner is apparently referenced here as "Charles Steinburg." The name is easily different enough to assume it is a different person entirely. But the fact that he is listed as a 55 year old shoemaker from Germany living in Philadelphia with a wife named Anna and three children named John, Alfred, and Delores (all the correct ages) indicates otherwise. In addition, a "nephew" named Bernard Pfleger is listed as living with them. This person is buried in the Steinbruckner plot at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery (see fn. 5). Ira Majo knew him as "Uncle Benny".
  9. Petition for Citizenship dated March 5, 1906. Note sponsor is brother-in-law Gustav Stirnemann. The Original petition expressing intent to become a citizen and renouncing allegence to Germany was filed Aug. 20, 1890. See also, cover sheet.
