Other Details: Joseph's grave at Durham Church is marked with a flag and veteran's medallion, "GAR 1861-1865" indicating he was a Civil War Veteran of the Union Army. However, I could not find any veteran's records for him in the Pennsylvania Civil War veterans card file. He would have been 62 when the war started.

Sources:

  1. Birth and death dates are based on his Gravestone which is right next to "Magdalena, Wife of Joseph Raub" in the German Reformed Church of Durham in Bucks County graveyard. From the picture of the grave, it could say 1793, but that does not square with the death date of 1875 and "aged 76 years..." on the stone
  2. I can only assume this marriage record from the German Evangelical Lutheran Church of Easton in Northampton County, PA is for the same Joseph and Magdalena Raub that had Reuben. It is corroborated by Sally Scheetz's recollection in her written memories that "my grandfather's mother's name was Transue before marrying Reuben's father." However, since both the Transues and the Raubs attended the Durham Church, I cannot explain why they would marry elsewhere.
  3. Durham Lutheran Church in Bucks County baptism records for Reuben Raub. Microfilm record available at Pennsylvania Genealogical Society (Roll xx540) According to the Reuben's grave, he died on March 30, 1913, "Aged 81 y, 1 m & 4 days." This would make his birthday February 26, 1832, not Feb. 6. I am more inclined to believe the baptism record.
  4. Peter, Maria, and Joseph J. appear in three other separate individual researches of the family tree. See, e.g. Frankefeld-Beam Research (Internet access required). They cite church records and other genealogy books. Joseph, age 12, shows up in 1850 Census.
  5. Parents' and siblings' names are cited by two other researchers, both citing a book by Robert A Raup: "A Genealogy of Selected Northumberland County Pennsylvania Pioneer Families". Birthdates are confirmed from online records of "Bucks County, Pennsylvania Church Records, 1770-1820: Nockamixon Township."
