  1. Research by Martha Bean (daughter of Franklin Morris) at Spurance Library in Doylestown, PA, Ferndale Cemetery and census records.
  2. 1860 Census
  3. 1870 Census & 1870 Census of Henrietta Tettemer
  4. 1880 Census
  5. 1900 Census, Mary Stem is listed as a "granddaughter" living with Jacob and Ellen Tettemer. In 1910 the Census shows her, still single, living as a boarder in NJ with a family headed by "Luther Tettemer."
  6. Census records for Eli & Lizzie Hillpot 1900, 1910, 1920 (living with daughter Ruth Frankenfield and son-in-law Jacob, 1930 mother- in-law Herietta Tettemer living with them.
  7. Peter H. Stem , Henrietta Tettemer, J.W. Tettemer, & Mary Stem All of these are right next to the Stem Family gravestone at Nockamixon Cemetery next to St. Luke's.
  8. SSDI 199-16-7309 Lizzie Hillpot Born: 7 Jun 1874 - Died: Aug 1969, Philadelphia, Pa. Other than same name and similarity in birth date, no specific evidence that this is the same person. Aonther researcher discussing the marriage to Eli Hillpot gives very different dates, but no source: "Married Elizabeth Shaw (Lizzie) Stem February 17, 1894. Her parents Peter & Heniretta Stem. Lizzie was born December __, 1872. Died July 2, 1937. She died in Easton Pa." The birth date listed here would be incompatible with the Marriage license application listed below.**
  9. Marriage date, location, Rev. were reported by another researcher citing Bucks Co. Intelligencer records.

* It appears that several after Peter's death, around 1896-97, Henrietta married a man named Joel W. Tettemer (confusing me because this last name is the same as her maiden name). The 1900 and 1910 Census records show Joel W. Tettermer married to a woman named Henrietta. In 1900, Henrietta is listed as being born in Jan. 1855, married four years, and never having had any children. In 1910, she is listed as being 58 years old, married 12 years, and having had six children, three living, though none are listed as living with her at that time. At the Nockamixon Cemetery (as exmplained in fn. 7) this explains the layout of Henrietta Tettemer being buried between Peter H. Stem and J.W. Tettemer

** "Lizzie Shave," age 7, appears to be living with Peter & Henrietta Stem in the 1880 Census. Another researcher found a Bucks Co. Marriage application which reads as follows:

This is consistent with later census records showing Eli & Lizzie Hillpot living in Bucks Co. with a daughter named Ruth. It appears that Peter and Henrietta raised Lizzie as a daughter, but that she came from other parents, or perhaps from another short-lived marriage for Henrietta. "Shave" appears to be a different last name. She appears to have been born well before their marriage. In the 1880 Census, she appears to be living with them but is listed as a "servant."

*** Some researchers mention daughter, Rosa, born in the 1880's and who married Elias Hager. I found census records for Elias & Rosella Hager who lived in Bucks Co. Pa and later New Jersey. I based the children's names on these census records. Cora Morris Raub also had a picture in her famiy album entitled "Rosa Stem Hager". This is the only evidence I have linking the Rosella Hager in the census to our family.
