Kentucky to IllinoisWilliam Endicott, father of Joseph Samuel Endicott, died in Harrison County, Kentucky, in 1848. His widow and young children are found there in the 1850 census. It is unclear how his widow, Mary Morrow Endicott, accompanied by young children, arrived at Mercer County, Illinois. It is clear that she did, as she is found there in 1860 as the wife of Isaac Mitchell, age 52, farmer, born Virginia. Stepson Franklin Endicott and children Martha & Joseph Endicott are with her. Isaac Mitchell is shown as a batchelor in the 1850 census in Mercer County so he did not come from Kentucky. In Mercer CountyIn the 1870 Mercer County census Joseph & Mary Elizabeth Welch and daughter Stella are living with Isaac and Mary Endicott Mitchell in New Boston Township: #105 Isaac Mitchell, 62, farmer, born Va; Mary Mitchell, 55, Oh; Joseph S. Endicott, 24, farmer, Ky; Mary E. Endicott, 22, In; Stella Endicott, 1, Illinois.Isaac Mitchell died in Mercer County on 1/8/1881, and is buried next to Mary Elizabeth Welch Endicott in the Shields Cemetery. After his death Mary Morrow Endicott Mitchell and her Endicott children migrated to Iowa. More on this family can be found on the Mercer County Endicott Page. Joseph & Mary Elizabeth's daughter Stella Endicott married Clarence Houghton, born March 1866, a farmer of Boone, Iowa, on 4/17/1894 in Coon Rapids, Iowa. He was son of O. D. & Lide Boggs Houghton. They had at least two children: Stella Eileen, born November 1899, and Clarence E., Jr., born 1908. In 1900 Stella & Clarence and daughter Eileen, are found across the county line in Willow Township in Greene County, Iowa. In 1920 they are found in the Coon Rapids, Iowa, census with children, Stella E., age 20, and Clarence E., age 11. Son Clare E. apparently never married as he died in 1961 and is buried alone beside his parents in the Coon Rapids Cemetery. Clarence, Sr. died in 1946 and Stella, Sr. died in 1953. Both are buried in Coon Rapids Cemetery. Joseph & Mary Elizabeth's daughter Ida, or Iris Endicott married Jerry Kendrick who was a cashier in Coon Rapids, Iowa, on 9/8/1897. He was son of A. E. & Minerva Cox Kendricks. Ida Kendricks is boarding with an Edwin Morgan family in Coon Rapids in the 1900 census. The family lives next door to an Augustus Taylor family where Ida's sister Lillie is boarding. No occupation is shown for Ida and Jerry Kendricks is not with her. A search of the 1920 Soundex located no potential candidates for either Ida or Jerry Kendricks. Joseph & Mary Elizabeth's daughter Lillian Endicott is shown as a saleswoman boarding in Coon Rapids in the 1900 census. A marriage license was taken out by Lillie M. Endicott and John M. Clark in Mercer County, Illinois in 1897 but it is either a different Lillie or the marriage was not completed. According to Endicott researchers she married Henry Hermsen. Joseph & Mary Elizabeth's daughter Rose Endicott at the age of 13 on 11/25/1888 and is buried in Coon Rapids Cemetery.
