Descendants of John Shirer of Elk Lick Twp., Somerset Co., PA
Master Index - Surname Index - Master Place Index - Shirer Family History - Return to Shirer Family Project
John Shirer settled in Elk Lick Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania around 1790, coming from Maryland. Oral tradition has it that the family name was Scheurer and they were of Swiss Descent. That is the same tradition held by Valentine Scheurer's descendants. Many researchers mistakenly connected John Shirer and Valentine Scheurer as father and son. Many years ago I proved that was not true and at that time stopped researching John's line. I also removed him and his descendants and their spouses from my Shirer Family Genealogy Project to cut down on confusion. Since then I have gotten many requests to put his family back on the website. This I have done by creating a seperate sub site which you are now viewing
There are many sources that are shared between the two databases and any reference to historical material would then be found on the main site to keep the redundancy down.
A word of warning. All data on this site is a compilation of many researchers efforts. Not all the data is documented or referenced so it would benefit your research to verify this data before accepting its authenticity.
