Isaac & Solomon left Viroqua together, in the spring of 1853. This date is in question as a later bio states " they left Viroqua on April 20th, 1853". Crawford County Press dated January 26, 1853 Prairie du chien "Solomon and Isaac Decker and Isaac and Joshia Adams, Allen Ramsey, Wm Dee, Leander Loughlin and Mallory passed through town for Calif. They had 6 yoke of oxen." I tend to believe the April date as it was written by an author who was their neighbor.

I believe Leander Loughlin was an uncle of Lottie, Solomons wife. They met a wagon train in Council Bluffs and traveled with it. A family named Pond was with the wagon train. Isaac met a girl named Ida Pond whom he married on the trail east of Salt Lake. Solomon played his violin for dancing at the wedding and was a witnes to the wedding. When they arrived in California Isaac walked 17 miles through the snow to have his marriage recorded. A record of that certificate hangs in the Court House in Downieville, Nevada County, Ca dated February, 1854. It is an official State of California wedding record. An early radio program called A Creek Wedding on Death Valley Days recreated the wedding.

It is possible that the S. Decker in that 1860 census may not have been our Solomon Decker but he had stated that he did some mining and had some luck. He may have been recorded in 2 different locations for that years census, the two locations ae about 70 - 80 miles apart. The record may also have been made from the hotel record, rather than personal interview.

Both Solomon and Isaac owned orchards in Pleasants Valley, near Vacaville. Solomon had 160 acres and Isacc had around 400. They raised fruit and vegetables for the bay area market.

In 1866 Solomon traveled by steamer to Nicaragua and across the Isthmas by ship to New York. From New York he traveled by train to Viroqua, Wisconsin, where he married Charlote on Dec. 5 1866. They then went to Illinois and to Adamsvillie, Ohio for 2 months where they visited relatives. They then went to New York and traveled by ship back to the Isthmas of Panama and back home to Pleasant Valley on March 12, 1867. (from Lotties obituary.)

Solomon and Lotties family are well recorded in the central valley as are Isaacs family.

George Nichols was Charlottas father, her mother died and George married Solomons sister Sarah. I have a pencil drawing of George made by an artist at the GAR encampment in St. Paul, Min. in 1896. Lottie came from California to see him at that time. The picture came from a descendant of theirs and is in an large old wooden frame., Principal=Solomon Decker1

US Census of 1870 lists a daughter Delia, age 2. Did she die?? His will of Dec. 31, 1872 does not list a Delia. Census does not show Adelbert, could this be him by mistake??? He was 4 in 1872. SF Census for shows a Delia probably too old. Also lists several chinese laborers who probably lived on the farm. Solomon had them also.

Ltr. from Almeda to grandmother dated 11-26-1868 states mother had a little boy baby, it is 5 days old. (11-21-1868) Adelbert.

Wedding recorded in Downieville in February 1854. He walked 17 miles through the snow to record it.
