WAYNESBORO - S. Evelyn Snurr, 88, of 18 Tritle Ave., and a guest of Quincy United Methodist Home, Quincy, died at 12:13 a.m. Sunday, March 16, 2003, in Waynesboro Hospital. She was in failing health for the past several months and critically ill since late February.

Born April 19, 1914, in Mont Alto, she was the daughter of the late George E. and Beulah Shipp Wile. She lived her early life in Mont Alto.

Mrs. Snurr was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Waynesboro.

A 1931 graduate of Quincy High School, she attended Shippensburg State Teacher's College.

She and her late husband, Ensor N. Snurr, were married June 10, 1933, in Frederick, Md. They moved to Waynesboro in 1935 and to the Tritle Avenue address in 1947. Mr. Snurr died Feb. 15, 1984. She entered the nursing home March 5, 2003.

In her early life she was a seamstress at Mont Alto Shirt Factory and then prior to retiring in June 1971, she was a clerk at J.J. Newberry Store, Waynesboro.

Surviving is a son, Lyman E. of State College.

Service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Carl Buterbaugh will officiate.

Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the benevolent care fund, Quincy United Methodist Home, P.O. Box 128, Quincy 17247.

APRIL 19, 1914 -- MARCH 16, 2003 S. Evelyn Wile Snurr, 88, of Waynesboro, a resident of the Quincy United Methodist Home, Quincy, died on Sunday, March 16, 2003, at the Waynesboro Hospital.

Born on April 19, 1914, in Mont Alto, she was a daughter of the late George E. and Beulah Shipp Wile.

She was a 1931 graduate of Quincy High School. She attended Shippensburg State Teacher's College.

Early in life, she was a seamstress at the Mont Alto Shirt Factory. She was a clerk at J.J. Newberry Store, Waynesboro, retiring in June 1971.

She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Waynesboro.

She is survived by a son, Lyman E. Snurr, of State College.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Carl Buterbaugh officiating.

Burial will be in the Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Benevolent Care Fund, Quincy United Methodist Home, P.O. Box 128, Quincy, PA 17247.
