The O'Farrell's settled one of the first homesteads in the Puyallup valley area that was to become Orting. James R. was born, raised, and died in his beloved Orting. He was blessed to marry his childhood sweetheart, Lena Bruce. He and Lena B. were parents to three children, Norman, Ruth, and my mother Edna.
James R. O'farrell was an influential person in the politics of Orting and Pierce County. He was over the course of his young adult life, the Postmaster, Publisher/Editor of the Orting Oracle Newspaper, County Commissioner of Roads. He unsucessfully ran for Sheriff. Became a North American Caterpillar Tractor official and served in Washington DC during WWII on the Federal War Production Board. Upon retirement, he and Lena "wintered" in California.
While he lived a full and productive life, I remember his tender loving kindness towards me as child, and his total faith and commitment to his Saviour. Rest in peace grandfather, your loving memory has provided a solace to many who knew you.2
