Isaac E. "Pappy Ike" Gayman, 68, of Mather, died Friday, August 29, 2003, in Greene County Memorial Hospital, Waynesburg.

He was born August 10, 1935, in West Bethlehem Township, Washington County, a son of Frederick and Lida McAfee Gayman.

Mr. Gayman retired as a coal miner from Emerald Mine in Waynesburg and was a member of United Mine Workers of America Local 2258.

He was a member of Mather Christian Church.

Mr. Gayman was a former Morgan Township supervisor and coached Little League and Senior League baseball for seven years.

He was an avid sportsman and sports fan and enjoyed baking and spending time with his grandchildren.

On September 3, 1955, he married Vera Mazik, who survives.

Also surviving are four daughters, Linda Goughenour , Peggy Novak and Susan Novak, all of Mather, and Debbie O'Leary of Ruff Creek; a son, James Gayman of Mather; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, F. Thomas Gayman of Marianna and James Gayman of Waynesburg; a half sister, Dorothy Maxwell of Siloam Springs, Alaska; and several nieces and nephews.

Vera Mazik Gayman

Former Community Action caseworker

Vera Mazik Gayman, 75, of Mather, died Sunday, November 28, 2010, in her home, with her family by her side.

She was born October 25, 1935, in Clarksville, a daughter of the late Miles (Foxy) and Sarah McCausland Arnold.

Mrs. Gayman graduated in 1954 from Jefferson High School.

She was a member of Mather Christian Church.

Mrs. Gayman was a Community Action caseworker and treasurer of Greene County Multiple Sclerosis Society.

On September 3, 1955, she married Isaac (Ike) Gayman, who died August 29, 2003.

Surviving are four daughters, Linda (James) Goughenour of Marianna, Debbie (Frank) O’Leary of Ruff Creek and Peggy (Will) Novak and Susan (David) Novak, both of Mather; a son, James Sr. (Beverly) Gayman of Mather; 12 grandchildren, Jim ( Kathleen) Goughenour , Tom (Christina) Goughenour, Ashley O’Leary, Frank O’Leary, Heather (David) Ekiert, Dr. Donnie (Kim) Novak, Nathan Gayman, Jeremy (Megan) Gayman, James Gayman Jr., Justin Whipkey, Stephen Whipkey and Amber Novak; nine great-grandchildren; four sisters, Ola Eaton of Ohio, Bonnie Pilcsik of Washington, Sharon Pyles of Marianna and Penny Arnold of Ohio; a brother, Earle Arnold of Clarksville; a brother-in-law, Thomas Gayman; a sister-in-law, Mary Arnold; and several nieces and nephews.

Her caregivers were her sister, Sharon Pyles, and Kim Cox, Connie Lemley and Lisa Moore.

Deceased, in addition to her husband, are two brothers, Quinton Arnold who died in 1958, and David Arnold, who died in 2003; and a brother-in-law who died in 2009.

Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Behm Funeral Homes, 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 1, with the Rev. Ken Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Morgan Township.
