Kenneth R. Vargo, Sr., 68, of Port Charlotte, Fla. died Saturday, March 7, 2009 at TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care in Port Charlotte.
Mr. Vargo was born April 2, 1940 in Uniontown, Pa. to Stephen and Helen (nee Hiles) Vargo and moved to Port Charlotte 7 years ago from there.
He was a retired bricklayer and was a life member of VFW Post 5690 and American Legion Post 110 both in Port Charlotte and VFW Post 8543 and American Legion Post 51 both in Uniontown. Kenneth served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War and was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Uniontown and attended San Antonio Catholic Church in Port Charlotte.
Mr. Vargo is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth "Liz" N. (nee Ritz) Vargo of Port Charlotte; daughter, Becky Vargo of Bradenton, Fla.; grandson, Bryce A. Vargo of Port Charlotte and Ryan Cicci of Bradenton; brothers, Frank T. Vargo of Port Charlotte and Paul J. Vargo of Uniontown; sister, Patti Taylor of Troy, Mich.; and 36 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth R. Vargo, Jr.; parents, Steve and Helen Vargo; brothers, John W. Vargo and Stephen Vargo; and sister, Evelyn Hobi.
Memorial services will be private. Interment will be at a later date in Uniontown.
Arrangements are by Paul Schelm Funeral Home in Port Charlotte.
