Note*   Roselyn was enumerated with her mother and step father Robert Johnson in 1940. Her obit says she was raised by Lucille Newlon but did not elaborate. It is unknown where she was in 1930 as her parents had split. It could be during this time she was living with Lucille and her husband but their 1930 census record as well as the 1940 shows them with no one else in the household.

The following is the obit for Lucille Newlon which gives more information:

Lucille V. Forman Burkett Newlon, 105, of Morgantown went to be with her Lord on Thursday, May 19, 2016, at her home, surrounded by her family and took her much anticipated flight to Heaven, to join with Roselyn and Evelyn and sing praises to Jesus for their wonderful time spent here on earth.

She was born on October 10, 1910, in Herring, West Virginia, daughter of the late Jehugh Jay Forman and Lottie DeBerry Forman Taylor.

Lucille was employed at the Morgan Shirt Factory in Morgantown and Union Wire Rope in Kansas City, Missouri. She was a devoted Christian and enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, quilting, and playing the piano for her many grandchildren. For 87 years her blessing was being an officer, leader, and mentor to so many people at the Sabraton Baptist Church.

In 1927, Lucille married James Burkett (deceased) and then in 1950, married Thomas Gerald Newlon (also deceased). Although Lucille was not able to have children, she raised Roselyn Seals Newlon (deceased) and Terry Gerald Newlon from an early age. They were her heart and they continued to be loving, devoted children until the end of her amazing life; with Terry at her side she joyfully left this world.

When she married Thomas Gerald (widowed and married to Evelyn Michaels Newlon, she became step-mother to three sons and one daughter: Robert Newlon married to Roselyn Seals Newlon (both deceased), Donald Newlon married to Carolyn Orosz Newlon (deceased) Terry Newlon previously married to Sandra Anderson, and Geraldine Jackson married to Thomas Jackson (both deceased). From these four step-children, she was blessed with nine grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and 29 great-great-grandchildren. Lucille had six brothers and three sisters all deceased. Her sister Martha once mentioned, “For not ever having any children of your own, you certainly have a huge family.” Her family loved and adored her.

Special thanks to Hospice and Lucille’s grandchildren for their loving devotion, generosity, and caregiving: Don and Sandy Phares, Penny and Gordon Shilling, DeeDee Newlon and Nancy and Rod Jackson. A grateful thanks to Lucille’s Church family who visited her throughout these many years.

Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown, on Monday, May 23rd from 4-7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the Sabraton Baptist Church, 1641 Sabraton Avenue, Morgantown on Tuesday, May 24th from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11a.m. with Pastor Scott Whetzel officiating. A private family interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Herring, Preston County, WV.

Donations may be made, in lieu of flowers, in Lucille’s memory to Sabraton Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1020 Dellslow, WV 26531; or Hospice 3596 Collins Ferry Road, Suite 250, Morgantown, WV 26505.

News/Obit* after 30 April 2016  Roselyn Newlon

Roselyn Seals Newlon, 89, went to be with her Lord on April 30, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born on January 2, 1927 in Jefferson, PA, daughter of the late John Seals and Emma Weatherholt.

Roselyn graduated from Morgantown High School in 1945 and was a member of the Sabraton Baptist Church for 72 years. Roselyn joined the church in 1944 when she was 17. She taught Sunday School for many years and participated in a number of Church groups such as: Young-at-Heart, American Baptist Women and the Church Choir. After the death of her husband, Bob, Roselyn donated the Church chimes to remind others of God’s love.

Her family and friends knew her as a good, strong Christian woman with a big, sweet, and compassionate heart. She was a great wife and an even greater mother and role model to her daughters who were there for her at the end of her beautiful life. She was an artist, a gardener, a skilled seamstress, and enjoyed making braided rugs and crocheted items for her family and friends. Her cooking and baking skills were legendary especially her famous “sugar cookies” and “cinnamon rolls”. Roselyn was always passionate about growing things and honoring God’s nature and beauty. Her favorite flowers were red roses, which she carried at her wedding ceremony.

Roselyn was married to Robert (Bob) Newlon (deceased) for 58 years and together they had four daughters: Sandy Phares (married to Don), Penny Shilling (married to Gordon), DeeDee Newlon, and Nancy Jackson (married to Rod); ten grandchildren: Bob, Ken, David, and Karen Phares (deceased), Tonya Moore, Erica Alexander, Marc and Zach Manilla, Rob Wolfe, and Krista Mitchell; and twenty-three great-grandchildren. Roselyn has seven siblings: Norma Lou Eddy (deceased), Donna Huffman, Kay Nowlin, John (Jack) Seals, Judy Campbell, Becky Walker, Sue Ellen Kingan. She is also survived by her mother-in-Law Lucille Newlon, who also raised her as her own daughter, and that’s another story altogether…

The family would like to offer special thanks and appreciation to Dee and Carrie of Hospice for their loving care given to Roselyn.

Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown Tuesday, May 10th from 4-7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the Sabraton Baptist Church, 1641 Sabraton Ave., Morgantown on Wednesday, May 11th from 1 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. with Pastors Don Phares, Scott Whetzel, and Lenny Delaney officiating. A private family interment will follow at Lawnwood Cemetery.
