Mother: Isabella ("Belle") Gibson ECKSTEIN |
She became a landscape architect and, about 1922, relocated to
New York City. Most of her projects were in Cincinnati, Nassau
County on Long Island in New York State, and Princeton, New
Jersey. In the mid-1930s, she married retired economics
professor Ezra Bowen, and the couple spent summers on Martha's
Vineyard, Massachusetts. She retained her maiden name
professionally. There were no children. There were no
children. Isabella E. Pendleton (Bowen) died in Princeton, New
Jersey on March 16, 1965. Her only survivor was a niece, Martha
Hunt Nickerson of Lyme, Connecticut, probably Elliott's
daughter. I have not been able to located Martha.
I am trying to find an uncle who was very important in her
career, giving her her first commission and helping her
financially to start her office in New York. I have been able
to rule out anyone by the name of Pendleton or Eckstein, so it
must have been someone who married either her father's sister or
her mother's sister. Do you know who married of Elliott Hunt
Pendleton, Jr.'s five sisters? (Eckstein will be a lot harder.)
