All Cherokee lands in the East were ceded to the United States,
the Eastern Cherokee to have joint interest in the lands ceded
to the Western Cherokee in the Indian Territory, for which on
patent was to be executed in the name of the Cherokee Nation. An
additional smaller tract (800,000 acres) were granted, afterward
referred to as the "Neutral Land," in what is now southeastern
Kansas. Payment was allowed the individual Cherokee emigrant who
left improved property in the East. Every Cherokee was to remove
west within two years after the ratification of the treaty, all
expenses in the removal and subsistence for one year after
arrival in the West to be paid by the United States."
