NEARBY: Nearby is the name of the home where William Lindsay, his wife Nannie Meador Lindsay and their seven children lived. After Mt. Lindsay's death, Mrs. Lindsay moved to Guilford College in order to give all the children a college education. All of these children were ambitious, energetic and unusually intelligent. Opie Lindsay became North Carolina's first ace in the first World War. Cabell was a teacher and a lawyer. Bill was at one time a teacher, later a real estate dealer. Avila was a teacher who married a lawyer, Mr. Lowe. Nannie Sue who married a Lawler, became Superintendent of Nurses at Watts Hospital in Durham, and later Superintendent of Nurses at Duke Hospital.
