William Coit (1721-38), in 1775, organized, equipped, and
drilled a military company, which marched from Cambridge to
Bunker Hill, while the battle was in progress, to aid the troops
from Connecticut to cover the retreat of the provincials. He was
born in New London, Conn.; died in Wilmington, N. C., while on a
southern tour.

Peter Smith (1742-1843) was sergeant in the New York, Albany
County militia, under Capt. Jacob F. Shaver, Lieut. Col. Henry
Livingston. He was born in Connecticut; died in Davenport or
Meredith, N. Y.
Ambrose Hine (1726-1810) commanded the 10th company, Connecticut
militia, for the defense of the North River. He was born in
Milford; died in Woodbridge, Conn.
DAR No. 50390.
William Lindsay (1721-92) served as major in the Virginia
militia under General Green. Severely wounded at the battle of
Guilford Court House. He was born and died in Virginia.
Elijah Cleveland (1721-94) was a member of the 9th regiment,
Albany County, New York militia. He was born in Canterbury,
Conn.; died in Hillsdale, N. Y.
George Calvert (1712-82) was a member of the Virginia House of
Burgesses, and in 1781 was appointed captain by Thomas
Jefferson, of the Culpeper militia. He was born in Prince
William County, Va.; died in Culpeper County.
