John ELDRIDGE

22 Apr 1741 - ____

ID Number: I62230

  • RESIDENCE: Surry Co. VA
  • BIRTH: 22 Apr 1741, Albemarle Parish, Surry Co.Virginia
  • RESOURCES: See: [S2344]
Father: Thomas ELDRIDGE II
Mother: Martha BOLLING

Notes

"John Eldridge, son of Thomas Eldridge (1710-1754) and his wife, Martha Bolling (1713-1749), is not given in Robertson's "Pocahontas", but he was born April 22, 1741. This record is taken from Albemarle Parish Register: "John, son of Thomas Eldridge and wife Martha, b. 4, 22, Bap. 5, 17, 1741. God-parents: Wm. Eppes, Wm. Willie, Ann Bolling, Ann Eldridge."

NOTE: William Eppes was friend and connection of the family, William Willie was Rector of the Parish. Ann Bolling was Anne Bolling, his aunt and sister of his Mother Martha Bolling, who married later James Murray; Ann Eldridge was also his aunt, the sister of his father and she maried Sterling Clack of Brunswick County.
*Genealogies of Virginia Families (GPC, 1981), Vol. V, 234
** Ibid., 229."

"He was named for his grandfather, John Bolling, and seems to have had the full name as in the will of his first cousin, Edward Bolling, son of his uncle, John Bolling, in 1769 he is left negro man as legacy to "cousin Bolling Eldridge". His first cousin, Richard Randolph, of "Curles" leaves legacy to "worthy kinsman, Mr. John Eldridge" in 1786. He does not seem to have married and the date of his death is not known."
