Rev. Geo Hopkins Round (1807-1879) was taken by his brother in a "democrat" wagon to Cazenovia Seminary, Cazenovia, NY when it first opened. He was graduated from Wesleyan University, Middletown, CT with its first class of 1833.


A story has been handed down about his turning his property into gold which he made into buttons and escaped north during the Civil War, he being a northern sympathizer.


A deed record in Herkimer Co. NY courthouse dated Mar 25 1874, p. 67, indicates that they had property there. L 103, 1/3 of an acre of land in the Town of Winfield, Lot # 1 of Bayard's patent for the sum of $1200 from George H. Round and Louisa Round, his wife, to a Horatio Nichols.


His obit was in "The Lenoir Topic" 7 Aug 1879. He served as Principal of the Union Academy in Sumter, SC in 1834. In 1835, he transfered to the Georgia conference and from then until 1841, he was a classical teacher in the conference School in Covington, GA.


From 1841 until his death, he served in Oxford GA, Madison, GA (Principal of GA Manual Labor School), Clarksville, GA, Fort Wayne, IN (1848), Cokesbury, SC and Lenoir, NC. In 1840 he is on the Federal Census in Newton Co. GA in the Town District.
