Gabriella Jones HARVIE

1772 - 1851

ID Number: I61759

  • RESIDENCE: Richmond and Warm Springs, Bath Co. VA
  • BIRTH: 1772
  • DEATH: 1851
  • RESOURCES: See: [S24] [S2311]
Father: John HARVIE II
Mother: Margaret Morton JONES

Family 1 : Thomas Mann I RANDOLPH of Tuckahoe
  1.  Thomas Mann RANDOLPH III
Family 2 : John BROCKENBROUGH "Confederate White House"

Notes

"Gabriella was Colonel Harvie's oldest daughter. Gabriella's quick grey eyes, en bon point person, and sprightly elastic step, attracted the attention of Colonel Tom Mann Randolph, of Tuckahoe, and so revived in the old gentleman the feelings of youth, that though a widower, with children and grandchildren, he asked Colonel Harvie for his daughter in marriage. Colonel Randolph was a descendant of the Princess Pocahontas, the head of one of the most aristocratic families in Virginia, asd as distinguished for wealth as nobility.

Gabriella when informed that they had provided a husband for her, whose greatness would make her the first lady of the land, she surprised and offended them beyond measure by her prompt refusal of the proffered honor. Colonel Harvie pressed Gabriella to accept the marriage. She finally consented . Mrs Randolph underwent a metamorphis after the wedding. The haughty pride which she inherited from her lordly-descended Welsh grandfather, and her old Virginia aristocratic grandmother, which had been suppressed before by her laughing, joyous temper, and her kind social affections, now became conspicuous in her intercourse with her husband and his special associates. The pleasures of society soon engrosed all her time. Her vivacity and intelligence attracted around her at home, and wherever she appeared, a coterie of the choicest wits and most agreeable gentleman of the country. Those who knew little of her character, and envied her rank and fortune, sometimes vented their malice in slanderous tittle-tattle. Her pride and conscious purity made her despise all aspersions.

After Tom Mann Randolph died Gabriella accepted Dr. Brokenbrough whose sound sense, high reputation, excellent character, and social qualities answered the description she made of him who was to be her second husband."

Genforum Loflin

Date: February 03, 2002: "Hello, My name is David Loflin We live in south mississippi. I go to the University of Southern Miss, I am an industrial engineering student. My grandfather was named Harlan Loflin. His father was Sidney Loflin. I know he was born in the late 1890's in a logging camp somewhere around Hattiesburg, MS. I really want to know more. I would like to go back as far as I can go. I know of a girl here at my school named Jessica Loflin, but she wont talk to me about her geneology, she must think i'm a weirdo or something! I saw this webpage and thought it could be a useful resource. I guess its unlikely, but if anyone can link my information to theirs, I would love to know more. Well, take it easy. I probably will check my mail frequently, so please email me if you want to discuss further. Thank you, David

Date: March 10, 2002 My Grandmother has a genealogy record that shows the Loflin "clan" originating from Scotland and arriving in the colony of Virginia during the mid to late 1700's. We have record showing that we conducted commerce with President Washington.

I'm not completely sure when, but after the Revolution, a part of our family moved to North Carolina...Randolph county to be exact. A portion of our family remained in Virginia. I have traced ancestry to a few relatives who fought in the Virginia militia during the Civil War. Hopefully this will be enough for me to join the local chapter of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, as I am a big civil war history buff. Hope this helps. Steve
