CONFLICT: James Lindsay m. Jean McCants not Mary McCants; Mary McCants m. Robert Winter and 2nd Hunt. Jean was dau of Agnes McKneally and not Agnes Donnally. They married Scotsmen & both settled in Union District. Some of their descendants are Wallace, Monroe, Rice, Duncan.


Robert Winter m. Jean McCants, the dau of James & Agnes Donnally McCants. She was at least 16 years of age in 1761 when she signed legal papers for her father, James McCants, who was a King's Officer, and her descendants qualify for Colonial Dames on his record. Her sister, Mary (Jean), was the first wife of James Lindsay, her brothers, Thomas and Nathaniel McCants are listed in the D.A.R. Patriot Index. The 1790 Census shows Robert Winter with two males over 16, and two males under 16. They had a dau who m. Robert Packer.

PENDLETON, George Cassety, a Representative from Texas; born near Viola, Warren County, Tenn., April 23, 1845; attended the country schools and the Hannah High School; moved with his parents to Ellis County, Tex., in 1857; settled in Belton, Tex., and engaged in mercantile and agricultural pursuits; during the Civil War entered the Confederate service as a private in Captain Forrest's Company, Watson's Regiment, Parson's Brigade, Texas Cavalry; at the close of the war attended Waxahachie Academy in Ellis County, Tex.; employed as a commercial traveler for twelve years; engaged in mercantile and agricultural pursuits; delegate to every Democratic State convention from 1876 to 1910; member of the State house of representatives 1882-1888 and served as speaker in 1886; Lieutenant Governor of Texas 1890-1892; delegate to the Democratic National Convention at Chicago in 1896; elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-third and Fifty-fourth Congresses (March 4, 1893-March 3, 1897); declined to be a candidate for renomination in 1896; engaged in banking in Temple, Bell County, Tex.; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1900 and practiced in Temple until his death there on January 19, 1913; interment in City Cemetery.
