Robert Winter m. Jean McCants, the dau of James & Agnes Donnally
McCants. She was at least 16 years of age in 1761 when she
signed legal papers for her father, James McCants, who was a
King's Officer, and her descendants qualify for Colonial Dames
on his record. Her sister, Mary (Jean), was the first wife of
James Lindsay, her brothers, Thomas and Nathaniel McCants are
listed in the D.A.R. Patriot Index. The 1790 Census shows
Robert Winter with two males over 16, and two males under 16.
They had a dau who m. Robert Packer.
UNION COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA, WILL ABSTRACTS,
1787-1849. Brent H. Holcomb, compiler.
Will Book A: Pages 225-226, as reported by Holcomb, p. 65:
(Holcomb made an error wherein he says will of James Lindsay)
Will of Jane (corrected) Lindsey of Union District. "...to my
dau Elizabeth Lindsey, Negro man Knock, and tract whereon I now
live, 200 acres, her choice of cattle, etc.;
to my grand daughter Jenet Scott Martin, the bed whereon I now
lie with furniture, trunk, riding mare, also a young heifer;
to my daughter Ann Norman, Negro woman Bess; Phillis be
appraised and that John Norman or my daughter Elizabeth should
take her;
my daughter Mary DeHay, have one dollar;
to my daughter Jane DeHay, one dollar;
remainder equally divided between my grand children except Jenet
Scott Martin;
daughter Elizabeth Lindsey, executrix,
Robert Martin my grandson, executor.

"The Andrea Collection" [The (Genealogical) Collection of the
late Leonardo Andrea, available on microfilm via the LDS Family
History Centers] transcript of the will of Mrs. Jane Lindsey,
dated 7 OCT 1813 and proved 24 JUN 1814. She was a widow at the
time of her death" (Will Book A, p. 298 Box 7 pdg 49 Union Co.
SC).
