"There is no concrete evidence that Eliza Ann Caroline Brewer
was actually the daughter of Matthew Brewer and his wife Mary
(Polly). She is not mentioned in Matthew's will or the estate
settlement. The only record I have found for her is the record
of her marriage to Philemon Hodges. Thus, I have included her as
a daugher of Matthew purely on the basis that she was about the
right age and lived and was married in Marengo Co AL in the same
general time frame as did Matthew and Polly.
According to Linda Baugh, a g.g.g.g.granddaughter of Eliza Ann,
"I also have a note in my family info that says Mary Ann Hodges
was the grandaughter of Gov.Wade Hampton, of South Carolina but
have been unable to find any connection along those lines so
far."302
