"Additional information given by Jean Wheeler via the internet who is a direct descendent of this line. Her source is her mothers family Bible and various collected records. Was married by Rev. Beemer. Was married in the home of her grandmother. Had a total of five children, two died prior to 1877, they died a few days after birth."

Notes

"James "Medicus" b.c. 1570. This John (number 17 in Horsfall chart above), had a son James Vaulx "medicus" of Marston Maisey in the county of Wiltshire. On 18 Jan 1598/99, he married Editha Gynnor or Jenner who was bap. 3 Nov 1576. She was the daughter of William Jenner of Cainsford, Gloucester. It appears that the Robert, John, Thomas, Humphrey, Susannah, and James who appear in the early VA records are issue of James Vaulx.

Editha died at age 41 on 18 Aug 1617. In 1618 or 1619, James married Phillipa Horton of Staunton, Worcestershire, daughter of William Horton esquire who died 13 Nov 1718 and was buried in Staunton Church.

Dr. James died in 1626/7 and his widow married a Mr. Baynham and died 2 Jun 1631 and was buried 5 Jun 1631 in Staunton Church. Before he died on 30 Jan 1631/2, Francis, the son and heir, erected the monumental statue that stands in the church today. Included are life-size effigies of Dr. James flanked by his two wives and small effigies of his 16 children. He is shown with a Shakesperian spade beard. His wife, Editha, is to the left and below her are effigies of 10 of her chidren. Phillipa, is on his right and below her are effigies of her 3 surviving children. Phillipa's clothese appear to be more Jacobean while Editha has an Elizabethan ruff around her neck. A skull is shown at the feet of both Editha and James meaning they were both dead when the statue was erected. Per a statement on James' statue, he was called "esquire" and described as "a famous Practioner in Physick and Chiurgely...who deceased March 17, 1626, to the generall loss of the whole Countrey, the private Griefe of all his Friends, more particularly of his sorrowful Wife.""

"It appears there were 5 brothers, sons of a James Vaus "medicus" of Wiltshire, England, who came to eastern VA beginning in the 1630s. They included John, Humphrey, Robert, Thomas, and James. Thomas was also a doctor (chirugeon) and Robert and James were businessmen. All had connections to London and a number of influential early families, e.g. Ludwell. They appear numerous times in the early VA records."

"James and Phillipa had four children listed in the Meysey Hampton parish register:
1. John (the younger), 22 Jun 1620;
2. Phillipa (daughter), 22 Jul 1621 (bur. 6 Nov 1621);
3. Philip (son), 8 Jun 1623; and
4. Humphrey, 17 or 27 Oct 1624."
