"In the reign of King Charles I, Maidstone seems to have
remained the the Kings hands; for that Prince, by his let. pat.
February 27, 1631, granted to John Collins the office of Keeper
of the house or goal of Maidstone and the custody of all
prisoners there to hold during his life."

"John Collins died in Kent county England in 1644 and by his
will devised to his son, John Collins his patent or grant of the
Kings goal in Maidstone and all the irons, implements, fees and
appurtenances in Maidstone and the custody of all prisoners
there to hold during his life."
SOURCE: History of Kent County, England vol. 2, page 110.
After John's death in 1644, his son John and his family
supported King Charles I until King Charles I was executed on
January 30, 1649 and they fled to America in 1655.
Maidstone is about 35 miles southeast of London in the direction
of Dover. Collins' descendants are still living in Maidstone (in
the year 2000)."
